Sounds like they made significant software changes-
I read it as it will be the same software used in the Q3 which is about as good as it gets IMO- or similar at least-
If they combine that user interface with a small package like this, I’m buying it-
New DNG RAW file format
New menu system similar to the Leica Q
New software
New design and buttons layout similar to the Leica Q
New 1.84M dot (960 x 640px) rear screen (source: Park Cameras)
New 3” rear LCD display with 1.84 million dots (source: Park Cameras)
Faster USB-C (source: Park Cameras)
Threaded shutter release button
New accessories: handgrip, leather camera case; carrying straps, wrist straps, leather half cases (multiple colors), automatic lens cap, soft release buttons, hip bag, crossbody bag, equipment bag.

Wow.
That lens has been around since 2015.
It is very good for a compact camera, but nothing new.

Not Wow-
I did educate people that this is actually a trimmed down LX100 and its lens is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
What did you bring to the discussion?
According to one site it now has an OLED EVF. If so that would be a big step up from the sequential EVF in the LX100 and LX100II. The rainbows on the LX100 EVF can be very distracting IME.
Wish Leica did more with this - namely updated the sensor to the new PDAF micro 4/3 sensor or use a APS-C sensor and did something about the lens, which wasn't all that sharp when it was first released.
In my opinion, I think this is the sweet spot in form factor though, along with the Fuji X100VI. Anything bigger than this like the Leica Q3 gets unwieldy and competes against interchangeable lens cameras. Anything smaller like the GRIII leads to more compromises that impacts usability.
New body design.
Q3 style menus instead of Panasonic menus with a different font.
USBC connector instead of micro USB.
The thing is I'd rather crop my Q3 (which maintains more resolution to the 50mm crop) or my PenF, which is beautiful and takes interchangeable lenses and has high res shot. Or even an XT5 (I don't have an XT50) which isn't vastly bigger, depending on the lens. Probably none of those. If I'm going to bring a camera then it's going to be a CAMERA or I'll bring my phone. My DLux 7 is in the car and get used on the odd bike ride and nothing more.
Pretty but not for me. Leica has a couple of more interesting cameras coming this year. I wonder what's with the development announcement? What happened to the M11D? Looks like the rumors it was pushed back were true and Leica needs a place holder.

As a Leica user, I happily pay more for less controls. I really do want the bare minimum. And the fact of the matter is the Panasonic is no longer available.
It will be interesting to see if Panasonic releases their version. For $500 less.

I have a D-Lux 7, was thinking about possibly upgrading, see nothing meaningful here other than a better looking body.

I do wonder how this compares to the Ricoh GR cameras. I like their small size and output, but not the lack of an EVF.
The best part of D-Lux is the aperture of the lens, but the lx100/d-lux zoom lens is not the sharpest (consumer P&S zoom lens) and has a tendency to pump dust in the camera. I returned 1 camera with a big dust in it, 2 had mediocre 3:2 corners. I have a used D-Lux 7 similar to new model. Hopefully D-Lux 8 will have the Q3 seals. but the issue is the lens design. GR has similar dust issue also.
Dynamic range: GR has APSC sensor vs D-Lux is 17MP crop of m43 @ 2.2x which has performance btw 1" Sony sensor @ 2.72x and m43 @ 2x.
GR lenses are sharp prime lenses and sensor has the best apsc dynamic range and good IBIS. If you are looking for landscapes, GR is highly recommended. If you are looking for family shots, D-Lux 7 is nice. Other options with evf+weather seals are Fuji X100VI with a similar crop to Q3 or a zoom+evf Canon G1X M3 (not the latest apsc sensor but good enough dynamic range with a slow aperture zoom).

Yes, the GR have amazing picture quality. The images pop off the screen, like Leica.
I have a bunch of small cameras, so if this lens isn’t great, I just stick with what I have.
It's interesting to look at how the dynamic range of cameras has improved over the years and across sensor sizes.
If this chart holds true in practice, a modern m43 sensor even cropped like the LX100 should exceed that of the Leica M9.
Based on this chart I would rather have a m43 sensor and fast lens than the full frame S9 and a glacially slow zoom or crippled f/8 pancake.
The latest OLED EVF as used in the Lumix G100D is good, so I would hope Leica use it.
Ricoh would do well to add such an EVF to the GRIV ( I've owned every GR from the GR1... GRDI..IV and GR,GRIII but aging eyesight now make rear LCD viewing a glass wearing challenge )
The Lumix menu is horrendous, with many combinations of settings and modes that lock out direct access to basic functions if set badly - a nightmare for the novice.
Leica stripping this down for the D-lux is a good thing.

Swap out the G9 for the G9 II on the chart.
I just ordered a G9 ii as the dual native sensor at 100 ISO was the clincher. I was looking for the same exposure latitude and response curve as the PEN-F and in MFT the G9 II takes it to another level.
And the PEN-F still rocks.
And Panasonic announced the LUT feature is coming for the G9 ii.
