Looking good Dan! How do you like it so far?
Well Michael..it is a steep learning curve right now. I am using basic settings to get a feel of the camera.
To be truthful, this 1st outing I was not impressed in my grasping the basics! I had some "what happened moments" but need to familiarize myself further with the fuji system.
Any input you and others can offer would be appreciated.
I am amazed at how much detail that camera absorbs. Just need to learn how to change that detail into a composition that is credible.
Thanks again!
Dan

So Dan, how are you liking that GFX 100S II? The images look just fine. You process with less contrast than some, but still pleasing.
Thanks Louis! This was my 1st outing.
I am still learning so your advice is welcomed. I set the Fuji up with some very basic settings to get used to how the sensor records what I am shooting. "Q" dial if you will.
I learned a few things quickly. Now I shot all raw and edited them in Br and Nik SEFxPro. Yes contrast will be a major factor in my shooting. Cant blame the camera on lack of contrast.
I spent yesterday reading the Manual and marking how to set certain settings for what I want the camer ato "see". MY initial focus point setting gave me some problems. I shot with a center small box. Now I have adjusted it to center point for now.
The weather was great with overcast and cool. Made walking miles easier and not fighting Mr Sun for flares and such.
Thanks for ALL your help!
Dan

What has been your issue with it so far? I feel like the first week I used the 100S I did street photography and a few events with it using the 80 1.7 and was able to get what I needed out of it. Danpbphoto wrote:

When it comes to AF points stuff I basically have it set to the smallest and it's usually AF-S. Granted with the 110F2 depending on what the subject is for portrait work I have it in either the smallest box AF-C or zone with eye detect on. I'm using the 110 as an example because it's an LM lens so the AF motors aren't completely useless in it. Danpbphoto wrote:

Thanks for reply! Well initially I set up the AF Point to be a center small box only. On my 1st outing there was a circumstance that the when I tried to focus(Now I am coming from Canon and I was used to 1/2 pressing the shutter button and had my thumb on the AF button insuring AF). IT appeared to work up until a few shots were all of a sudden green focus point boxes , 3 in total, showed on the VF.
I could NOT get the focus point box back. I did shut off thecamera and turn back on and all was well until today.
I set the AF Point to Center only until I learn how the camera focuses using other focus points. I shoot still 99% of the time right now so no motion tracking was needed.

That is what I thought I did. I shot still right now until I get a feel of the Fuji. Yes I made a small box focus point box versus the single point focus.
At 1 point, the VF showed multiple green boxes all over the VF. I tried using the joystick to correct that. It didn't work.
I shut off the camera restarted and all was ok.
NOW today, I just got back, I went out to do some more testing/shooting. I had set the AF Point to be the center point only.
I was shooting and noticed that my AF point green display was not showing(actually it was..read on). I tried everything I could remember using all the controls but nothing worked. Then I did notice that the green AF point was in the bottom left corner of the VF.
I THOUGHT I used the joystick, other controls and rechecked the Menu to make sure I hadn't missed something. No joy!
Luckily Emmanuel@epphoto was available and he got me back on track using the joystick to re-set the AFP. Voila!
I was getting flustered so my mind was flitting all over! Emmanuel got me squared away in a few minutes.
I am NOT going to try motion yet. I am 78 3/4 so I don't retain much!!!
Thanks for your response. It is nice to know that help is at hand or rather a keystroke.

I basically shoot the system like an old school DSLR. You have to baby it to get the shot, but it will get the shot, just slowly. Danpbphoto wrote:

I forgot to add that the tobacco leaves are new to me in Vietnam.
Here in Maryland, the Amish raise tobacco in the Southern part of the state and I love when they hang the leaves, like here, to dry in barns where the sides open up.
Tea plantations and rice paddies are about as exotic as I remember. Most tea plantations were vacated but the houses, outbuildings still stood..that is unless destroyed by war.
I had NO idea the Vietnamese grew tobacco. They did smoke a lot...but back then everybody did! Not me!

Gambrill House, also known as Boscobel House and Edgewood, is a house near Frederick, Maryland in the Monocacy National Battlefield.
When I first saw this imposing house 60 years ago...the road was only 1 lane and dirt. The 2 huge trees bookending the house were but 25' saplings.
This was before Alfred Hitchcock's horror movie "PSYCHO".......I see that house in a strobe like vision here...branches even more concealing only what a bolt of lightining brightens.
Thanks for looking!
