I've been surprised by this too! I'm currently in the market and trying to decide between this and the GM. I tend to enjoy bokeh with more character and structure, but want AF and the brightest aperture possible (one of my main use cases will be tripod-less night photography).
The Sigma is looking very attractive, especially after the $300 price hike on the GM. I can't really tell if there's much of a difference in rendering between the two... better tracking focus with the Sony isn't too important for me. It seems like a silly thing, but I kinda hate petal hoods - definitely prefer the GM on this point (though probably not enough to justify the $$ difference).

We should post more photos there

I just picked up a used copy of this lens for £700, and it's stunning - new favourite lens! Surprisingly small, but quite hefty so a little front heavy on my a7c ii. AF is superb and I can't stop shooting it wide open for all that creamy bokeh, but I guess that's why you buy a 1.2
I didn't gel for some reason with the 50/1.4 DG DN or the 50/2. My favourite Sigmas so far have been the 65/2, 85/1.4 and 35/1.2, but this one jumps to the top of the list.

Lucky you! I still remember the moment I unpacked my GM. My first thought was, "My God, this is even bigger than I expected. It'll be best if I don't even try it and just send it right back." Unfortunately, I did try it anyway.😅

Yes I think if I hadn't of gotten used to the Bigma then might have been a different story! It's about the same size/weight as the 50/1.4 DG DN. Perfectly manageable especially when I've lost weight from the body. Have had my eye on the 50/1.2 GM but just too expensive for me, this was a perfect alternative for me.
