p.1 #1 · Common loon sitting on nest

The most common cause of nest abandonment is people stressing the loon by getting too close to capture an image with a cell phone.

Looks like a dragonfly entering on the left Robert.

Such a peaceful beautiful setting, that is a wonderful image, love the coloring and contrast!

Thanks to all of you

This is the outlet stream for the basin and there is just one nest each year for the entire basin, which is 2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. The main channel is about 50+ feet wide. The problem is that this channel is also the only pathway for watercrafters headed to the outlet and back. So, this channel gets very high kayak/caone traffic. But it does not start until after the loons have committed to the nest. The loons choose their nest site in late May to early June and the watercrafters do not come out until will into June (47th lat north).

Classic shot Robert. I have wanted to shoot loons for a very long time, shots like yours keep that dream alive. Someday I hope. Until then I will live thru your images. Beautiful work !

Killer image, the perspective is perfect. Was your camera & lens close to the water hand held?

Hi...
I'll continue to post loon shots, usually one at a time. Thank you John!

Hi Rand

Yes, when practical, that is the technique I use for stills.

Thanks for the comment.
