Can you provide a link? I’ve seen wood ones as well, but think I’d prefer aluminum and black.

I liked the Smallrig one, Nikon's is very nice but I can feel the difference in weight even more, so I ended up buying this on aliexpress. It is aluminium, right amount of grip, glue is strong, works like a charm for me. I might even add a layer of self-adhesive leatherette some day, might look even better.
If you decide to put it on your camera, I would recommend using the additional adhesive pad that comes with it as well. Those are two-sided adhesive pads, one is already installed, I recommend unpeeling and using both of them at the same time.
That extra adhesive will fill the camera leatherette better and hold.
Am I the only one in the world that hasn't bought a grip? I get the need for one, if I stick my Pentax K 135/F2.5 on this, when you add in the adapter it really isn't comfortable to hold for any length of time. I wasn't sure any Zf grip would help, so I just ended up with a PD Cuff and that seems to work well for me.
I think it might be that generally all my vintage glass isn't massive or heavy compared to the Z Primes and I have never put a zoom on the Zf which obviously is a weight saving.
I recently purchased a Zf and the Smallrig grip. Love the camera, but not thrilled with the grip as I miss some thumb support on the back and I didn't care for the silicone surface. Ended up purchasing the Nikon Zf-GR1, and I like that it feels as if it is part of the camera with the same leatherette, adequate thumb rest and the front grip doesn't get in the way of any controls while providing enough grip/support. It also looks great on the camera, and I plan on keeping it on my Zf.

Original Nikon's grip is very nice and it has best look in my opinion, but its not great with heavy lens.
I think what we need is one huge grip for heavier lens - something thicker than any of existing ones. I wouldlike to try out a grip that is almost thick and wide as actual grip of Z6 for example. No need for buttons etc, but make it wide.
Then GR1 for aesthetics if you need
I’ve been using a leather half case for about a year, it wraps around the back providing a bit of a thumb rest. Aside from this I’ve been holding the camera and lens the way I used to with my Nikon FE. Add-on grips now feel superfluous even with a telephoto zoom. If you think about how the forces work out…holding the lens is so much more important that griping the camera, all the more with mid-size to larger lenses.
What do you guys think about this grip with sunset orange ZF? it is the Nikon ZF-GR1. I think it looks the best. It feels good in hand. I have the Neewer with added thumb rest. But that red stripe ruins the whole aesthetic. The small rig doesn't look right. Grip looks too big.. Or I can just use it without any grip with small lenses.
I don't care what my grip looks like, it needs to succeed first at being a good grip. The ZF isn't a fashion accessory for me, though, so what do I know
I think the Nikon grip looks good on the orange body pictured above and I suspect it would look good with any of the available colors. I happen to like the black one and the Nikon grip, which hasn’t left the body since I got it. However, it is nice to have options like the Smallrig or Neewer.
I've got the the original Nikon ZF-GR1, the Neewer 079 and the Neewar CA134.
For me, the Neewer CA134 is by far best grip. It's not widely known as it is mainly only available in the Asian market.

I do like my cameras to look good though. I chosed a Z6 II back then when there were better Sony for the same price because I did like the body better than what was inside. My other cameras I chose them like that too. Not such as a fashion accessory but with the pleasure of a well crafted object. Beauty in design is not that subjective.
Back on the subject, I did buy the Smallrig Wood grip and did have the og one sold with the Zf which I found one of the best.
The wood one is better than most.
There is still a gap due to the material but it’s not atrocious.
I can recommend it.

The Neewer CA134 is also my absolute favorite grip. I tried so many (including the original ZF-GR1) and it's not even close for me.
Another endorsement for the CA134. I used the Nikon ZF-GR1 for a while and liked it, but found it a little small for my hand. I haven't owned but I've used the Smallrig. It wasn't bad in terms of size and shape but I really disliked the feel of it. (In an earlier post, it was said, "...I really dislike the s3xtoy feel of the soft squishy silicone." I can't verify the comparison about how it feels, but it is a little creepy. The CA134 is about perfect in all ways and makes handling even the large Sigma 135mm f/1.8 easy.
