I guess 100-400 F/4 GM if rumor is correct, it will be quite heavy, maybe similar to 400-800. After all it has to have at least 100mm front element to be 400/4 (same like 800/8). It will not be cheap. I don't expect TC 2x to work well with it, it is not a prime. TC 1.4x, will work ok in center.
So is there anybody with Sigma 500/5.6 and TC around to take a test picture using the MF trick (one that would show performance in center and periphery for landscape use)?
As promised, I got a chance to nip out and do some casual neighborhood winter birding in between snows in the northeast. All shots taken with the Viltrox 2,0x "Extender," full-res uploads, 1 or 2 of them are cropped a little. First shot I remember being completely uncropped, but I may have had a bit of camera shake handholding the 1000mm equivalent. I'm very impressed with the performance of the "Extender." It almost certainly seems better than cropping as if I'm gaining some image quality, though I know you can't beat physics. A 1,4x would probably be truly impressive, both on the part of Viltrox, and on this excellent lens.
