p.3 #1 · Which current Sony is best for High ISO/Low Light photography?
Sorry to re light an old thread. I'm having issues with low light eye detect AF being inconsistent with my A7RV in studio conditions, even with bright modelling lights, studio's with flash are just low light scenarios. I've tried all the things, F2 primes, bright modelling lights. I was going to try an A7 IV to see if this is better. Does anyone have any experience with this camera with low light eye detect AF. Someone replied on another post that they had the same problem as me with their A1.

For low light high iso photography; from the current Alpha line is it safe to say that the A7 IV performs the best as far as photography for low light? I shoot events and documentary where most of my work calls for available light and I’m not able to use flash very often. I currently have the A1 and the A7rV but I’m afraid they tend to have a noise pattern that’s not great once you get past 4000 ISO, especially the A7rV. And I’m finding myself shooting more and more high ISO situations. I was hoping the A9 III would be that camera, but it seems due to its global shutter, it’s not currently the best performing. I know that the A7sIII performs well in low light for video but I don’t think it translates to photography so is it the A7 IV or A7C II that currently are the best at low light on the Sony cameras?...Show more →
I dont really consider iso 4000 to be that high, especially on ff I'd think most or all cameras would handle that. How how high are you going?
The higher mp cameras have more noise SOOC but it should clean up in NR

I've noticed that Sony on sensor AF seems to work better when the sensor ISO is set in the second gain. Low light though is where SLR focusing often has an advantage, especially if an AF assist lamp can be used.

I am confused by having trouble with low light eye AF and bright modeling lights.
So you used a 28/2. What distances are you shooting at? Have you tried more portrait oriented lenses? The 28/2 may be the worst prime made. And while I would use it for environmental portraits outside, it might be the last lens I would choose for studio portraits wife open.
What does a light meter tell you your conditions are?
Have you tried a lens that is typically more portrait oriented? 50/1.2, 50/1.4, 55/1.8, 85/1.4, 135/1.8?
