Going to be traveling in a couple of months and would love to bring some of my camera equipment with me.
The thought of the airline losing it or it getting stolen makes me sick to my stomach.
I really don't want to use my one carry on bag for all my photo stuff.
What do you use for insurance for your camera gear?
Add a rider to your homeowners insurance? "Not sure how that would work".
And if there are insurance policies specifically for this, who do you recommend?
Seconding this. On the lookout as well. Had an incident once and insurance based out of Germany that replaced a lot of stolen gear mid-trip. Kinda looking for somehting similar.

I've never checked a camera with an airline so never have insured them specifically, even when traveling with $4000 or more of gear. My home owners policy covers loss of personal items so I would be covered if I ever lost something or had it stolen. Never did even after 20 years of travel.
I travel pretty often and internationally and had the same concern.
I first added equipment to my home policy but Travelers insurance wanted an itemized list of equipment with serial number.
I understand that but equipment changes and I'd have to update each time there was a change. None, or only one was valued higher than 5000. I think the policy was $178 for about 10K of equipment.
About 6 months ago I purchased new camera and lenses and needed about 25K coverage so I found a dedicated insurance broker, ATHOS. They break a policy down into scheduled and unscheduled. Individual Items below $5000 are unscheduled so you can freely change replace equipment. Gear above that requires SN numbers.
There are a few carriers. I'm not a professional photographer with a clients and deliverables which is something you will encounter and can impact the rate. All the policies I found have a rider that will not pay any claims that happen over water, called Inland Marine. If you loose or damage equipment on water you're out of luck, so just pray your flight makes it
