Hvannadalshnjúkur (approximate pronunciation: kvanna-daalsh-nyookur) is a compound of Hvönn (Angelica), Dal (valley), and Hnjúkur (mountain peak). It sits atop the Öræfajökull volcano, an outlet tongue of the Vatnajökull glacier.
many times photography is about being in the right spot at the right time and you definitely were there for this picture. the moon's position is perfect and everything in the picture works together. colors are spot on. well worth your time to get out in the cold. thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Wendall.
This was shot from a helicopter. We circled around and took multiple exposures, some of them with the moon placed just right where I wanted it. The big stroke of luck was that these conditions prevailed on that evening and during our flight.
Beautiful image. The soft colours are just outstanding and the composition of the moon in relations to the mountain peaks takes this over the top. Well seen and captured.

Just beautiful Rajan. This is not from a drone or helicopter, is it?
