Ok, I’ve known for a while that Fuji offered film simulations on their cameras.
However, last night I was on YouTube (I’m always on YouTube) and watched a guy upload film simulations onto canon cameras.
I must point out that I’m not at all computer literate - far from it. As I understood it only applies to jpegs? Great as I only shoot jpegs.
What caught my eye was the video showed the picture profile for each of the simulations, I mean the sliders, contrast, sharpness, hue, saturation etc etc.
It had me wondering if there’s a way I can just copy these slider values onto the spare user slots available- usually 3 I think?
Is it as easy as that or does the download alter something else that can’t be achieved without said download.
I hope that makes sense.
The youtube clip had Kodachrome which I would love to emulate.
Can anyone advise please?
Edit : I’m assuming that these film styles utilise the various white balance settings in order to achieve a certain look?
Does anyone know of a website where I can read up on how to get started creating my own?
I'd be curious, myself, I know there are lots of adjustments available in the Picture Styles menu for one. I'd think you could just use the slider bar settings but oerhaps he's doing something else
Should apply to jpegs but also DPP holds on to the camera settings.
There you have a ton to download and try. From that pack I particularly like Astia and Kodachrome 25 (not sure about the second one)
From the guy in your video, the film base profile is nice.
It’s a pity you can only load 3. It could be nice if we could load quite a few more. But you can quickly test them using DPP in your computer, under different lighting situations, etc.
Yes, you can just copy the slider values, but if you really want to fine-tune the color response and create your own Picture Styles, then this is what you want:
That said, shooting RAW lets you re-process your images in the future with any "film simulation" workflow you like, and you can change your mind and use a different look at any time. That's probably why there is little discussion of this tool here or on other forums.

I used some custom Picture Styles on a Canon DSLR many moons ago, 60D perhaps. That is certainly the way to go. Picture Style is your baseline. The sliders only allow you to customize what the PS actually IS.
Googled it, someone asked if Canon had film simulations similar to Fuji. One person replied their F-1 did
I'd be curious if any of this does more than you can do, adjusting the slider bars in the Picture Styles
Even the Rebel XT had green/magenta and red/amber adjustment graph, in camera. Some have creative filters, too, so there are options to adjust jpegs in camera.

This may seem kind of obvious, but you could always buy an actual film camera. Film may be a bit harder to find, but it is still out there.
And then he would have to digitize them if he wants to post them on the Web.
I am NOT a big fan of DXO. There is NO direct contact only email! The platform is extremely unstable IMHO. I have 2 latest and greatest photo only computers, not saying this is the solution/problem but just an user's opinion.
When upgrading from 1 version to another, many problems! The "Removal Tool" does NOT remove all the older versions line code.
Actually over a year with a "ticket" and they have no solution to the problem! They just ignore me and all my proof. They send you the link to remedy the problem. Not so!!!! The "screen shots" shown in the review is NOT what I am seeing according to their emails. But they can NOT tell me why. Mac & PC have no difference.
But this is just a users opinion and I have had Nik Coll from day1. The "Support" is negligible in a solution in my cases. And I HAVE MANY! AND NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD ISSUES!
Maybe it can help you.

Ted Forbes has a solid 800k+ subscribers on YT. I picked up both his Kodak and Fuji film preset packages for Lightroom. Literally the only presets I’ve ever bought.
