p.2 #1 · 16-35mm vs 24-70mm on high resolution body for travel

I'm re-thinking this: a 16-35/2.8 GM II + 85/1.8 prime might actually be a great and light enough travel combo. The zoom stays on the camera unless it is time to shoot people/portraits.

My move was 16-35 GMII and the 70-200 GII Macro paired with my A7CR in a Wontancraft 3.5L sling. If I want a prime in the middle I go either 35GM, CV 40 1.2, or a 40mm/50mm f/2.5 G prime. If I want to get crazy I can also throw in a TC for more reach or even better macro from the 70-200,

I went 16-35 over 24-70 for size, weight, and a wider range paired with the 70-200, as well as better macro reproduction. I also am more than happy to punch into APSC for 50mm with plenty of resolution left to crop even tighter. I can crop past 70mm on the 16-35mm and still have a larger than 4k image to work with.

I'm also tempted by the 20-70 as a one and done travel lens, but haven't bit the bullet on that one yet

Ultimately, we're lucky to get to try out all this gear and I try to make the journey and experimentation as fun as possible.

Thanks,
Baron

p.2 #3 · 16-35mm vs 24-70mm on high resolution body for travel

Responding to an old post, came across this searching for threads for an upcoming Singapore trip. Taking the following gear: 16-35 f2.8 GM II, 50-150 f2 GM, 35mm f1.4 GM and 85mm f1.4 GM II with two bodies. 16-35 and 50-150 for daytime and 35+85 for night photography. My family doesn’t mind my gear, so get away with carrying so much stuff.
