**I've added my son's pictures in a reply below**
A tradition in our family is for the kids to get to pick a special trip with dad when they turn 10 years old. My son picked Yellowstone/Grand Teton for his trip, which we did back in September. It was such a special time for me to get to spend with him enjoying nature, teaching him photography, and hanging out with one another. Here are a few of my favorites from the trip, all shot with the EF 100-400 v2 on an R6 Mark II.
Probably the highlight of the trip was seeing one of the Yellowstone grizzlies ("Jam" I think) right after some fresh snowfall on the east entrance road near Fishing Bridge. We weren't able to get too close, but I like these as environmental portraits. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53476621520_a9d9bd1155_h.jpg

Looks like a wonderful trip, and excellent bonding tradition. This is exactly what builds good relationships and shows kids alternatives to electronic gizmo addiction or drugs. Great shots too - love the black bears.

i believe your son and yourself had a special experience that neither will ever forget. one of the best parts of photography is the pictures can be looked at years and years from now and refresh the experience. excellent pictures of a variety of subjects. hopefully it will not be the last time you and your son are able to enjoy time like this together.

I couldn't imagine a better father son trip or outcome, congrats! Hard to pick a fave, but the first bear and the young cow are just great.

Appreciate the comments Eric. It was definitely a memory we will both have forever. I’m already looking forward to planning the next trip with my younger son (which will be in 2025).

Totally agree Jim. It was so nice to be “device free” for a week!

Definitely won’t be the last! I would live out there if my wife didn’t hate being cold so much 😀

Here are some of my son's best shots from the trip. Really proud of how well he did, given this was really the first time he seriously used a camera. These were all shot with a 7D and my older 70-200 v1.

Soooo cool. I've only been in July and August. In 2020 we saw wolves on an elk kill in the Lamar Valley (from the road!). So that was a bucket list thing.

These are great shots Tim but nothing compared to the memories you have with your son.In 2022 I met both my adult children in Jackson Hole for a look at the Tetons (she had visited the year before). We had a great time, the place is amazing. We had such a good time we went again the next year and had some great wildlife moments. Congratulations on you and your son’s adventure.

Delightful in every way, images, comps and Father and Son outing. Fun and certainly one that will be a lifetime of memories. I like what you both saw and how you each interpreted the scenes!

Thanks for resurrecting this post! I actually have a similar trip booked coming up at the end of May for my younger son who turns 10 this year. He wanted to do the same thing as his brother. We are hoping to see some cubs!
