Has SanDisk fixed the problem with their SSDs (that were reported to be losing data), particularly the 1 or 2 TB drives?

I am not sure, but after having one of them failed * 4TB ... I decided to risk again and some time ago I did buy SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD V2 (Sky Blue)

No issues so far - 5 or 6 months photos and video work

F that. Avoid like the plague - especially after their piss poor response to drive failures.

Who cares if they did or didn't...how are you supposed to trust them after such a failure of confidence?

Just go get Samsungs.

Agreed. Why would one not buy a Samsung these days? I can’t follow the logic of wanting to buy a Sandisk that might have questionable reliability when there is an alternative.

I never experienced the SanDisk issue...yet, but some have as you've read. Recent purchases have been fine for me one 4TB external SSD required a firmware update a few months back and the most recent purchase came with "firmware updated" as part of the description. But some on line speculate there might also be a hardware problem with some of the most recent manufactured SSDs.

Personally, I never fully trust any of these devices regardless of the brand or social media accounts for years now and always back up my backups regardless of current or past internet drama.

I've got 3-4 1TB, 2 2TB, and 2 4TB SanDisk Extreme SSDs (not the Pro versions) and haven't had any issues.
I've also got 2 4TB Samsungs (a T7 and a T9), also with no issues.

The most recent thing I read was that the SanDisk problem, although they tried to fix it with firmware, was really a hardware (soldering) issue. That tidbit came out several weeks ago. Frankly, I'd be amazed if SanDisk didn't jump all over that problem and fix their assembly technique. They posted the affected S/Ns (none of mine were on the list).

At this point, assuming you get a recently made SanDisk unit, I'd expect them to be fine. Of course you can't tell when it was made until you look at the package.

On my M2 Macs, SanDisk SSDs are 10-20% faster than either Samsung I have. They're also smaller (a travel consideration).

I was keeping my photo library on a Samsung and back it up to a SanDisk until last weekend when I took delivery of a Crucial nVME SSD and an Acasis enclosure. Now that's my go-to unit as it's ~2.5-3X faster than either of my Samsung units. Backup's still to the T7.

I have a bunch of Sandisk SSDs None of them register as needing the "firmware" update. Have some of the SSDs failed that are not on this list

I have two -- and extreme pro 2TB and extreme portable 4TB.. They are sealed in the box. I cannot find the SN on the box and I am wondering if BH Photo would take them back for Credit even if purchased well over 6 months ago? Mark

It's the pro version that had the issue, not the regular extreme version. I have both Samsung and Sandisk and I like the Sandisks better so I've continued to buy the Sandisks and I haven't had any issues with the extreme version:

It is not just the Pro version that had the issue; per the Western Digital support website, the regular Sandisk Extreme 4TB has the issue as well.

https://support-en.wd.com/app/firmwareupdate?!

I have a couple of the Sandisk Extreme V2 drives, and they haven't failed yet. But I also ran WD's serial number checker, and supposedly they aren't defective drives. My issue with WD is how they were not forthcoming about the problem and were evasive for so long. It doesn't help to build trust in their brand. With that said, I've been primarily using their Pro-G40 models that I believe came from their acquisition of G-Drive. The Pro-G40 line supports both USB C and Thunderbolt 3 so it's a faster interface on my Macs.

They have all had their issues. Sandisk with some of its external SSDs and Samsung with its 990 Pro (excessive wear issue). Both supposedly fixed, but we just have to take their world for it. Personally I have both Sandisk (2TB and 4TB Extreme) and Samsung (4TB T7 Shield) external SSDs and have had no problems with either (checked the serial numbers of my Sandisk drives and they were supposedly not part of the problematic batch). I also bought a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro last month and assume it'll be fine, too.

One school of thought is to not trust a company after a reliability problem. Another school of thought is a company that's had a problem with a product will make damn sure it ups its game to prevent further brand damage so could actually be more reliable in future. Take your pick.

I have 3 of the 4tb drives. One has failed so far and now I dont trust the others. After their shit response to the situation I'll never buy another Sandisk product. This is sad because I've bought their stuff before other brands for years. I'm shocked at how they've ruined their reputation tbh.

Anbody know the difference between the SanDisk Extreme Pro (which I've bought in the past) and the SanDisk Extreme Go? Just saw a 1Tb "Go" being sold at Costco.

I got some Kingston cf cards years ago. Had issues immediately never bought Kingston again but I'm not sure how much sense that made. any cards or other media can fail

I started a thread on these, not realizing the issue. One guy seemed o have a solution, hardware based IIRC can probably find it if anyone is actually interested or lost photos. Another thread on a different board people seemed not too happy with the Samsung. no drive secure, not sure if ssd's great other than short term
