This is the first post of a series on the sand desert Skeišarįrsandur in South Iceland. I expect it to range over three or four instalments.
The images were taken in the month of December when the sun stays close to the southern horizon over the Atlantic Ocean. It was an extraordinary sight, the interplay of the glancing light with the ice, sand, and glacial streams below.

Nice to see abstraction and detail of the landscape instead of grand vistas all the time. Last photo is the most detailed, but it also allows for much imagination. You could present the photo by itself, it will leave people mesmerized and wondering at the same time.

David: Thank you. You are right in your observation re. abstraction. The entire photo session in this area on that morning was a masterclass in abstraction. I have much material to process.
