A red-tailed hawk surveying the grasslands during golden hour. I got some info this past weekend that a snowy owl has also been spotted at this location, so I'm aiming to go back this weekend to try to spot it. Short-eared owls are a lot more common in this area, but I've now heard a few recent reports of snowy owls as well, which is pretty exciting.

Failed talon lock. I caught the ritual of the talon lock and twirl to the ground from about a quarter mile away. This pic happened much closer but they never locked. After looking it up, eagles start courtship between 4-5 years old so I'm guessing that the female here is just too young.
With no disrespect to Lance, I think his new thread should be locked and this thread continue to be the official 600PF image thread.
EDIT: From the email notification I got when these recent replies were posted, it looks like this thread was somehow sent to the 2023 archive. Not sure how that happened, but glad we got this one back.

Like you, I looked and looked but could not find the 600PF thread. I thought I was going mad and was sure I had posted to it, but as I couldn't find it no matter where I looked I figured there must not have been one. Glad its back.
Is there any way to add my new 600PF thread to this thread?

In honor of this thread being found buried in the archive and returning, I wanted to share one of the first photos I've edited from Costa Rica. I shot nearly 5,000 images, mostly with the 600PF handheld, and still have a ton to review, rate, and process. The 600PF is insanely sharp and can create some beautiful backgrounds in the right situations. The f/6.3 aperture was a bit dim at times in under the dense canopy, but the Z8's files are brilliant and you can pull a ton of detail out in even poor conditions. In those conditions, I found myself doing a better job of slowing down my shutter speeds to control the ISO and let in as much light as possible instead of just relying on aperture priority mode and auto ISO. I hope you enjoy.
