Agreed!
I get that the mechanical dials make this difficult, but I would really like to at least get the option of storing settings for auto iso, picture style, AF settings, MF settings, custom button layout, flash settings..
hell, everything other than shutter speed, I suppose 😅
that'd be grear for when you switch from adapted vintage glass to Z lenses, or from a flash setup to an auto-iso Av setup.

Yes, Nikon needs to give us C1/C2/C3/etc. in the menu. Then we could assign it to a function button to bring up the C menu and use a dial rotation to select which C setting we want.

Back in the saddle with another Zf. I'm enjoying the camera a lot more this time because I'm already familiar with the Nikon menus, Auto ISO behavior, and PASM + manual dials.
Since I'm mainly going to be shooting adapted manual lenses, I have the AE-L button set to 200% magnification and video button set to switch between non-CPU lens choices. I have to keep the front function button by the lens mount turned off since I accidentally press it all the time.

Some more Zf spam. Received the SmallRig grip and cage today. I like the grip, but I love the cage. The cage makes the camera so much better balanced with larger adapted vintage lenses where a lot of weight is out at the end of the lens. Index finger that rests on the shutter button also grips the top of the cage for hold leverage. I would assume the cage will be helpful with larger Nikon Z AF lenses, too. I really like how SmallRig matched the cage’s top dial release buttons to match the Nikon lens release button, front function button, and shutter soft release.

I had a second opportunity to shoot with the Nikon Zf and the 28mm Thypoch Simera this weekend. We visited a fantastic farm-to-table restaurant near Collingwood, Ontario.
This time, I used the TechArt Pro adapter, which allows AF to work with manual focus lenses. It works reasonably well, but requires the in-camera aperture to be permanently dialled in to 2.5 in order for the adapter to communicate the correct focal length to the camera, so the aperture in the exit data is incorrect for each image (usually shot between f1.4 and f2.5).
I didn’t find that VR worked quite as well with the TechArt as it did with the 6-but TTArtisan, but I noticed this morning that I had focal-point VR turned off, so perhaps that made a difference.

First few mediocre shots with the CV Z 50 f/1 (more mediocre shots to come, I promise ). Can't get over how well built these Voigtlander Z lenses are. The closer MFD of 45cm the Z version really transforms this lens compared to the M-mount version. And at f/1, the sharpness in the center holds up down to about 46-47cm, then right at the MFD of 45cm gets slightly soft.
My only gripe about the CV Z lenses is I wish Voigtlander had added a manually-adjustable infinity hard stop so that we could set the lens to stop right at infinity focus (and readjust later if temperature changes affect infinity focus). I have a TTArtisan M to Z adapter that just happens to be the perfect thickness, so all my M lenses hit infinity at the hard stop on the Zf, and it's spoiled me. The saving grace, though, is the fact that the focus confirmation box is so accurate, even at f/1, it will accurately turn green if I have the box over the horizon (using the smaller box with eye-detect/3D off).

Trying out a Breakthrough Photography X4 ND 3-stop filter. Exposure wide open in bright daylight is perfect, around 1/2500 sec. at f/1. Will post sample shots later.

I'm working my way through this thread but I'm none too patient so I'm going to shortcut and ask:
Is it possible to get green box focus confirmation with legacy Nikon MF lenses?
I'm using the Mr. Ding Noxlux and CV 35mm Nokton Classic on my ZF with the TTartisan 6-bit adapter and it's amazing. I also shoot Nikon film cameras and would love to use my converted pre-AI lenses on the ZF, but magnification and peaking are very slow and usually less accurate than the green box. I don't get the green box with my FTZii, what's the solution?

If you've got the TTA 6-bit already, you can get an F to M adapter to put on that. The F-M adapter that I bought resulted in some vignetting so I didn't really pursue it as a solution, but it does get you focus confirmation with F-mount lenses.

Not that it matters because they all might vignette, but which one did you try?
A combo with inherent vignetting will save me a couple clicks in post anyway,

I like a little vignette too, but this isn't a very pleasant one. It's a sharp darkening of the corners that you'd probably prefer to crop out.
After posting, I dug out the adapter (K&F, by the way) and stuck a bunch of lenses on it. Nothing scientific, just looked at live view with the lenses facing a blank wall.
Lenses with visible vignette at all focus distances, zoom settings, and apertures: pre-Ai 55 f/1.2, 35-200 Ai-S, 35-105 Ai-S, pre-Ai 135 f/2.8, and pre-Ai 50 f/1.4. The 180 f/2.8 ED Ai-S also shows it until you focus further out than about 20 feet.
Lenses with no visible vignette: 24 f/2.8 Ai, 28 f/2.0 Ai-S, 28/35/50/100 Series E lenses, pre-Ai 5cm f/2, and pre-Ai 105 f/2.5. The 55 f/2.8 Ai-S showed none, except for a very small amount just at MFD.
Now I'm curious to try another F to M and see if actually makes a difference. I got the adapter just for the 55 f/1.2, so once I noticed the corners I stuffed it away and didn't try anything else. But seeing that the 28 f/2.0 and 105 f/2.5 seem to work, I think I'll start using them on this setup instead of the FTZ.

Thanks this is great info. One of the lenses I would use is the 55/1.2 SC Auto, plus the 35/2 O, 20/3.5 UD, and the 105/2.5, all pre-AI. The K&F looks reasonably priced so I'll probably give it a go.

Yeah, I wish I knew it worked so well with the other lenses before now Eye AF + confirmation will be great with the 105 for portraits.

Has anyone considered the thin filter conversion Kolari offers for the ZF? I can't decide if it would be worth the effort. I typically shoot 28 or 35 M mount glass.
