p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Does anyone here do pet photography professionally? If so I'm looking for advice...

I make my living as a film/video editor and it's been a terrible year for that and I need to find a way to supplement my income. I live in a dog heavy area and am close to a few very affluent communities.

I mainly do wildlife photography and then mainly birds as that's what's most available near me. I've developed a local following for that with requests for prints and sometimes for outings, etc so I would initially market to those people.

I've also taken many pics of our dog and some friends' dogs for fun and I want to bring my wildlife photography skills to bear and sell myself as a pet photographer with a strong emphasis on dogs and action. It's a niche that fits my skillset and one I don't see filled when browsing local pet photographer websites.

So yeah, I'd love to hear any advice on any aspect of making this happen... especially things like rates, dealing with clients, what to deliver to them (20 hi Rez processed jpegs?), legal stuff, gear, etc.

The gear I currently have is my Sony wildlife kit which is an A1 and 600 f4 (which I assume will be way to long for most scenarios), a 100-400GM, 90 macro, Sigma 40 and 85 ART lenses, a Zeiss Basis 135 2.8 and a Zeiss 35. I assume a 70-200 would be the lens I'd most likely have to acquire.

Thanks in advance for any info!

If you want to build a dog/pet photo business, I would really recommend looking at a site:
https://thattogspot.com/
She does the best dog photography I have ever seen.
It is a pay site, and I subscribed to it for several months. Terrific material.
I am in no way associated with the site--- but my pictures got better.
By the way, she does also have a business component to her site.

Dogtography is praised at the cameraclub. Many books on this.

Kaylee Greer at dogbreathphoto.com has been a Photoshop World speaker on exactly this.
