Awesome!

I see at least one custom function button (or focus recall), it's USM, has strap brackets on the adjustable tripod collar, and a zoom tension ring. My only question is there's only one thick black ring?? I assume the ring closest to the tripod collar is the control ring...so where's the focus ring? I'm going to assume this is a prototype image and the focus ring will be where the empty white space is at the front of the lens (or the black ring is the focus ring and the white space is the zoom ring).

I see two white rings.

Yes. Assuming one is the zoom tension ring and the other is the custom function ring. I guess we'll know in a day or so.

Well counting that way, I see three white rings: one really thin one between the black one and the white one. I would not be surprised if the thin one is the tension ring, because it doesn't matter if you accidentally turn the focus ring while tensioning the zoom. And yes, we'll all know more in a few days

So is this Canon's answer to the Sony 200-600?

Push-pull extending?? That is what that large white area looks like to me. Black is MF ring? I don't know...that would be weird but hey....it's Canon...they've lost the plot ever since they started building RF lenses.

I wish my 100-400 II kept hte push/pull zoom from the Mk1. So much easier to cover the range quickly.

I also don't see any focal length markings so wonder if it is push-pull they are on the extending barrel part??
Maybe I'm totally off base....just was my first thought when I saw that image.

Hey if you're OK only having 3 superteles, shoot Sony

Hey folks, what makes you think an image from a rumor site is a real photo from Canon

Post a link to where Canon has provided an official announcement, along with an official photograph of the lens.

Remember when the 600/11 and 800/11 rumor photos hit and people thought they were fake but they were accurate?

So what? Remember the ten times more fake photos of rumored lenses and cameras that have been posted?

And they were sharper and more detailed than the blur posted at the above link.

Jan Wegener says it's real and thereby put his hard-earned reputation on the line.

Given we're maybe 36 hours from the official announcement I don't think anyone is going out on a limb by assuming these are accurate images. Now if we were several weeks out I'd feel differently.

Don't Buy the Canon RF 200-800 F9 lens. Buy THIS instead.

Seems he's trying to take advantage of the 200-800 hype to drive traffic to his video by being a contrarian. He's making concrete statements about a lens he's never tried, simply silly.

Just like a lot of YouTubers. They are a dime a dozen.

Not only that, his argument that if I'm on a budget, I should save up $900 more and get the 100-500 with a teleconverter instead, is just inconsistent rambling.

I'd count the 100-400GM also and say 4.
Unless one is into really slow glass then Canon really doesn't have anything different than Sony (2xTCs Frankensteined into old lenses not withstanding).
They have there 100-500 which is similar to a 100-400 and then they have the RF400/2.8 and RF600/4....same as Sony.

Both Sony and Canon need to step up the mid-high end lens game because Nikon is eating them alive. There are no Canon lenses that would tempt me over from Sony right now (I'd pretty much be swapping over to identical kit). There are a lot of Nikon lenses that would.
