On my A6700 I did buy some APS-C lenses but they were all used but in great shape. I have the Sigma 18-50/2.8, and for primes the Sony 15/1.4 G, Sigma 30/1.4: and 56/1.4. Also got the Voltron’s 75/1.2. Decided to pre-order the new Sigma 10-18/2.8 but will see if I follow thru on it since I would really like to try the E 70-350/4.5-6.3 G OSS.

I did also order the A7CR and will use mostly Sigma I-series primes on it and any of my GM lenses that don’t feel too big or front heavy. Have to figure out which

Nice set of APS-C lenses! Seems you plan on carrying the A6700 and A7CR bodies individually with a separate set of lenses for each. I am going a different route and want to carry both the A6700 and A7CR together for travel and general photography. I really like the new "AI" AF with Subject Detection/touch menus and feel of the A6700 and want to have the same in a smaller FF body than my A7RIV. There is the A7RV but it is even heavier and now larger, so the A7CR it is.

My plan for lenses with these 2 smaller bodies is my Tamron 20-40mm f2.8, Sony 70-200mm F4 G Macro with 1.4xTC (to get me out to 425mm) 2 Sigma I primes, probably the 35mm and 65mm f2, and the Sony 15mm f1.4G I ordered today. Can add a 3rd Sigma prime, either my 45mm or 90mm f2.8, depending what I will be shooting, at less than 290 grams extra. This 2 body kit is about 3 Lbs less compared to what I took to Thailand this summer with my A7RIV/A7III kit, which had FF mid size lenses and my 100-400GM. Really feel I won't be giving up anything in IQ, but will lose the extra crop reach of 426mm to 600 the GM provided which was about 10 out of 2,700 photos on this trip. However for sure my hit ratio for the new bodies with the subject detection will go up, so less weight and more in focus photos, seems to be a win-win for me.

My plan in the end was similar toward yours but ended up finding som cheaper used APS-c glass so I thought I would give it a try. In the next month or two I hope to whittle my collection down.

The a6700 performed well over the weekend. No trouble with light rain. AF accuracy was good but I would loose tracking while zooming with the Tamron 17-70. That’s really annoying and I missed shots that I was able to get with other setups. When the motorcycles are coming straight at me I like to zoom from tele to wide and back out as they pass me but I had to re-engage AF multiple times to do this.
Does anyone know if the Sony 16-55G performs better at this on the a6700? I might be able to return the Tamron and switch.

I've had the tamron since its release. I've had a few copies but will spare you the details as to why, first was stolen on vacation, etc. I like to shoot similarly, zoom from tele to wide as subjects pass by me (think mountain bikes and dogs).

I also find that the Tamron can definitely lose focus when zooming (admittedly, I could probably have better technique). As such, I decided to try the Sony 16-55 as it is touted to be an amazing lens and superior to the Tamron.

Unfortunately, in my experience, the 1655 was no better in any regard. Focus was no more accurate, while zooming or with stationary subjects (both lenses perform quite well with stationary subjects). Furthermore, the IQ of the 1655 was no better than the Tamron. I suspect my expectations were very high based on comments on other forums. I swear I've heard people say the 1655 is like having a bag of primes. But in my case I was totally underwhelmed with the 1655. Seriously no significant difference in the IQ when compared to the tamron. I sent it back. I'm sticking with the Tamron, which is a really nice lens, particularly for the price.

I think the 1655 is totally overpriced. The IQ and size difference between it and the tamron is negligible. I desperately missed the 15 mm on the long end.

I'm sticking with the tamron. Paired with the 6700 it makes for a very nice all purpose kit. But...as good as the gear is these days it's still not magical. I think with this set up I/we will still have missed shots from time to time.

I really do appreciate your feedback. I could find no fault with the 35-150 on my A7R4 other than the weight (4lbs vs 2.3lbs). I was hoping that I'd see the same level of performance, but I really liked having the lighter kit after hiking 6 miles in the mud chasing the motorcycles around. I think I'll stay with the Tamron too, the extra reach over my Sigma 18-50 was something that I liked even though I find the tracking a little bit better on it. I never did get the 70-350 out of the bag on Saturday.

If Sony ever decides to update their standard aps-c zoom I might reconsider, but you're right, it's always a compromise somewhere.

On my A9 all 3 Tamron lenses I tried would lose focus when zooming (28-75G2, 70-180G1, 35-150). I just assume it was a 3rd party lens limitation. I have a 200-600 on the way and will test with my A6700 and report back.

It’s the lens I think

100-400GMii will lose focus

200-600 and 70-200GMii will not lose focus

16-35G won’t even zoom when firing a burst 😂

How is the performance of the a6700 in tough exposure situations such as outdoors in bright sunlight with backlighting? Does the sky get blown out without bracketing and processing in post? Curious since Sony dropped the built in HDR capability.

I have been using the a6700 on the beach for small beach weddings and for family beach portraits so we are shooting into strong back lighting all the time.

Just like with any camera the sky will get blown out if you over expose it. You need to use flash to balance the subject and the background exposure to get it right.
When shooting natural light it works just like any camera I have used in the last 25 years. but it work better then any camera I have owned for focus and subject tracking even in back lighting.
I find it almost impossible to get an out of focus image unless I did something wrong myself.

Those are exactly my findings. I upgraded from the A6600 to the A6700. Even in difficult lighting conditions i.e. subject is heavily back lit by the sun----the AF doesn't get fooled or hesitates. The eye-AF technology in the A6700 is fantastic and I think it is slightly better than the A6600 which is already excellent.

Hello, after 3 weeks, I returned the a6700. I have had several 6000 series cameras, several A7s and some Canons, currently the R6.
The a6700 has the best AF of all the cameras I have had, but it has 2 big problems. I have read that this camera has a low pass filter that I suppose is for video, it is very good, but I have my doubts in photography. The thing is that I have noticed very bad performance at ISOs higher than 2500, even worse than the a6300 and the most I recorded, lack of sharpness. So the camera went away. Waiting for the a7cii.
greetings

I am not seeing the a6700 high ISO problem myself and editing in DXO PhotoLab using Deep Prime it cleans it up very good and very fast.

I have been shooting a lot of video in the past week at 3 days at a festival and many of it in low light using a zoom lens shoot at the zoom end so at F6.3 and it very sharp and clean.

Here is two photos from the festival the first one is at iso 3200 and the second is at iso 4000 and shot at 300mm and 1/45 of a second I was not expecting it to come out but its not bad at all for 1/45 at 300mm.

I checked with our Sony rep at work about the OLPF and he told me all Sony APSC cameras have an OLPF of some kind. I'm surprised your 6300 outperformed your 6700, though. Looking at the high ISO examples shot by DPR with the 6700, 6600, and 6300 (all using the Zony 55/1.8) the 6700 appears to retain details and color saturation better than the earlier models (and better than Canon's R7).

Need a favor and first I apologize as I have not had a chance to work this camera much at all. Been moving and a world of other things . Anyway got a event tonight with portable flash mine is a a Wescott FJ80 and was just trying things out and I noticed immediately the flash was working in electronic shutter and from all my years you simply can't do that in electronic shutter but mechanical but if someone could try it and let me know. Im shooting tonight but I will just stay in mechanical but will try it with electronic for sure but any thoughts on this. Thanks

My Wescott is a dedicated Sony interface flash unit so maybe any brand for Sony will do the same. Going with the Sony 16-55mm 2.8 tonight. And exactly why I bought it.

From what I understand Sony has added support for wireless flash with the A6700 for 3 of its wireless flashes and to control remote ones from the camera as well as the flash mounted on the flash shoe. These do work with the e-front curtain shutter without banding. Seem unlikely but maybe your Wescott flash used the Sony protocol and that is why it is working?

I just put my Godox V350S on the A6700 camera shoe for the 1st time and it would not fire, got a greyed out Flash Mode with a warning I was in electronic shutter (tab 16 of 54 in the menu). Put the camera into mechanical shutter and the Flash Mode allowed me to select Fill Flash (only) and the flash fired just fine in manual or TTL. I use the red video button (in the shooting mode) to quickly switch between the 2 shutter types.

Sony released a FW update for the A6700, V1.02. The FW is updated via a SD card in the camera. You download the FW from the Sony website and it is called BODYDATA.DAT, it is 1.01 GB in size, see below for what is updated.

Few Precautions:
~ Charge the battery to full before beginning.
~ Best to erase the SD card, but if not make sure any previous FW upgrades are not on it. Transfer the downloaded file to the SD card (top level-don't put it in any folders), then put it in the camera.
~ Once the SD card is inserted, under the Setup Options is the Version tab (the very last page in the Menus, tab 54 of 54) hit OK and you will see your current version at the bottom with the newer FW version at the top. Go up to it and hit OK
~ You need to read the warning message about updating and scroll to to bottom of the small screen, only then will the camera allow you in hit the Execute tab and the process begins.
~ LCD screen goes dark for up to 5 minutes. (mine took about 3 minutes) On the lower left back corner of the camera body is a red flashing light that gives the progress of the update, 1, 3 or 5 flashing lights, then done.
~ Needles to say, but don't turn your camera off during this process.

Benefits and Improvements

Fixes an issue where some movie metadata (Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, etc.) may not be recorded
Fixes an issue where JPEG files could not be enlarged and played
Fixes an issue where the Switch V/H AF Area feature may not work correctly
Fixes a Creators’ App issue where the Auto Time Correction and Auto Area Adjustment features may turn off
Improves the operational stability of the camera

Im on 1.01 so I will update later today. I will say the camera worked extremely well except for maybe some AF controls getting changed and that may have been me as I was shooting at night a dinner event outside. Worked great with flash and my one lacking point with the 16-55 Sony was I needed a 11mm as well. I was in very tight quarters on this gig. Acted a lot like the A7RV
