Last week I was fortunate it enough to see and capture an amazing aurora display over Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. This was the strongest aurora display I have personally seen, with vertical pillars of light becoming visible well before astronomical darkness had even set in. The conditions were spectacular and I can't wait to see and shoot something like this again. Having learned from this experience there are a few things I'll do differently in the future. Overall, I'm very pleased with what I went home with. C&C welcome and appreciated!
Thanks -
That's so great you caught the aurora in such a beautiful location! I've never photographed them that far south. Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.....?
This is a stunning image. As someone who has shot aurora many many times, in southern Canada, I know how hard it is to be at the right spot at the right time (no clouds, limited moon, in the dark, in the Deep South). So congratulations for a picture that you will enjoy for your lifetime.
[I usually go to Whitehorse Yukon or Yellowknife for way higher odds. Easy to get to and almost always works for aurora opportunities. Text me if you every want to go there and try.]
Great picture - worthy of hanging on the wall - and from me there is no higher complement. Scott
