Next time I'd shoot at a higher ISO and faster shutter speed. The 13 second exposure resulted in slightly less definition in the aurora pillars due to movement. I would have also liked to shoot a low ISO super long exposure for shadow detail, whether or not I needed it in the end... I was pretty stoked on what I was capturing and didn't want to fool with changing anything while the aurora was present. All in all I'm perfectly happy with what I came away with but there is room for improvement.

Last week I was fortunate it enough to see and capture an amazing aurora display over Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. This was the strongest aurora display I have personally seen, with vertical pillars of light becoming visible well before astronomical darkness had even set in. The conditions were spectacular and I can't wait to see and shoot something like this again. Having learned from this experience there are a few things I'll do differently in the future. Fantastic! I love that place and have many pictures but none so unique and spectacular. I was hoping to see the aurora at that time but it was cloudy up here in western WA.

What a spectacular image! I visited this lake a lot when I was a kid as it wasn't too far from home in Eagle Point. This is the best image I have ever seen of it.
