I've decided to let my Z400 4.5 go. All it took was one outing in the kayak to realize it's been replaced by the 180-600 and it'll only sit on the shelf. The only advantage is the weight and size difference but I've worked out a trade with MPB and I'll be getting an OM-1 and the Olympus 100-400. There's some other gear involved but that's the crux of it. That will be my go to if I need light and small.
Just as the Z50 was my gateway to the Z9, the OM-5 I bought was my gateway to the OM-1.

I had a feeling these two may have been up to something romantic a couple days ago so I hung out below them in the kayak for a bit. They were clearly concerned by my presence so I left them to do what they do.

Walked into my local store today, and they actually had a 180-600 in stock on the shelf. Debated, since I already own the 400/4.5, but I've been contemplating replacing it with the 180-600 since I use the 400 with the 1.4x about 90% of the time. Caved and bought it. Pretty impressed. It's obviously much heavier than the 400, but the extra reach is very nice, and I'm even fairly pleased at how well it takes the TC. Very good optics for a zoom of this type. Far better than the last 600mm zoom I owned (Sigma 150-600). Took it out for some overcast test shooting. First two are the bare lens, second two are at 840mm with the 1.4x.

Some on the Z8 - the AF on this lens works wonderfully with the bird AF of the Z8. I accidentally had the camera in DX mode from a few shots at the end of a prior outing, which mostly wasn't an issue, though I'd probably have moved a little closer for some of these if I'd known I was artificially inflating reach. But really liking this lens.
