Interestingly someone mentioned they actually preferred the handling and balance of the 400mm f2.8 TC over the 800PF but I have no idea how the 600TC compares, I'm assuming it's quite a bit larger/heavier than both. I hope to get a chance to compare them eventually but nobody that I'm aware of carries the TC lenses in store on display for handling.
Btw I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on the 800PF once you've put it through its paces as not many people seem to have had experiences with the 180-600mm, 600PF, 800PF, and the Nikon ZF.

I don’t think so , this beast is about as big a lens as I want to use. It was quite a deal so I couldn’t pass it up.
Surprisingly I find it easier to carry than the 180-600 , but it is very large.

I think the 3 big guns are close in size

In hindsight if I could only pick one it would be the 600 pf , if I wanted a pair of lenses I would go 400 4.5 / 800 pf and the 1.4 TC, of course if money isn’t the deciding factor. I have no business owning the 800 , I would be better served learning how to get closer than spending big money on lenses , but it is nice to shoot across the street and get the same framing without TC’s …

I have both the 400mm 2.8TC and 600mm 4.0TC. They both balance incredibly well when compared against the 800 PF which I owned briefly. The 800mm is way easier to deal with when going to a remote location or hand holding for prolonged periods. For example, when I was planning to go on a trip to shoot snow leopards I was going rent the 800 PF before taking the 600mm 4.0TC.

Have had little time for photos lately and it's been too hot and humid for the birds anyway. Managed a quick half hour at the local National Park and was lucky to get this Eastern Yellow Robin sitting on a perfect perch with far away background to get a nice isolated shot. The 180-600 always impresses, punches well above it's weight considering it's price etc.

What would you like to know?
myself and Matthew K both own the 186, 600PF and 800PF. We've done a bunch of discussing each of the lenses, pros, cons, when to use them, etc.
essentially all 3 have very similar IQ and apertures. once post processing is done, I'd be very surprised if anyone could distinguish between the 3 lenses. the two caveats are the primes have better sharpness out to the edges, and handle cropping better. but if you can fill the frame and get the subject in the center, you're looking at about equal quality.
186 is obviously cheapest, and also has the best MFD and flexibility due to being a zoom. however, it is a heavy zoom.
600PF is the most fun lens to use, and an absolute blast to handhold all day
the 800PF is the king for small bird photography, but you may run into MFD issues. 16' I think. it also feels more like the big primes, 400/600TC in terms of fatigue, size, difficulty fitting on airlines, etc.
we currently both own all 3, but are discussing that if one had to go - it'd probably be the 600PF. it's the most fun lens to use, but the 186 + 800PF is such a great pairing, that you don't really need a 600PF in the lineup
