I think they engraved the new "close focus" numbers onto the existing ring and filled them in gray to differentiate them. Personally, I think they should be the same color as the other numbers since they're still within the rangefinder coupling range.

The person who worked on my lens did it mostly for the fun of it and for the challenge, but unfortunately he is not taking on other lenses. I only posted this to show it's possible. I also changed my plastic tab for a black painted brass.
I knew you were going to say this lol. That conversion looks quite amazing
