p.1 #2 · New Cosina Voigtländer 50/1.2 for Fuji X announced for September
Wow, thats a rally surprise!
Portals like fujirumors.com never mentioned about this lens.
I was expecting from Cosina, that their next release will be some UWA lens, like 12/1.4 or similar.
I'm curious how this CV 50/1.2 will perform vs old XF 56/1.2

Yes, somehow there were no rumours at all about Cosina's latest 2 releases before official announcements just popped up suddenly (this and the 28/2.8 VM/LTM). Previously there were usually some rumours a few days earlier.
I'm tempted by this one, might pick it up but not decided yet.

Wow, that is surprising, and very cool to see. This one might be hard to resist.
Right now my Fujifilm X kit consist of the Noktons 23 and 35 with flankers TTartisan 17/1.4 and 50/1.2, as well as a CG 90/2.8 with adapter, for a light capable manual focus travel kit. So I'll take an 18/1.4 and a 90mm next please Cosina. One can dream, no?

My Fuji kit is still just X-S10 and Nokton 23/1.2 & Ultron 27/2 so far. This CV 50/1.2 might be next addition and I'm dreaming of a CV 18/2 or such (faster would be OK too but should not be too big and heavy).

A dream we share, for sure. But have you seen the size of the TTartisan 17/1.4? I believe anything they do, Cosina can do better. Certainly the fast + compact thing.

Yes please. Ultra compact high IQ 18/2 would be lovely.
Well unbelievable...some wishes can come true it seems. A short CV tele is just what I had been mentioning and this is a ridiculous surprise. I cannot keep up with these rollouts Voigtlander is doing but I am not even complaining
I honestly think that I would get this first over the 35mm f0.95 as being a landscape centric person it would round out my travel kit a bit better to have an effective focal length of 75mm (crop factor) in a small compact kit
As much as I have my eye on the 35mm f0.9 (I will eventually get it) I have many many 30ish lenses (small ones and the larger XF 33mm f1.4) to pick and choose from to take on travels
This is a really good news and thanks for sharing this!

Cosina's product introduction video for this lens (in Japanese):
They say it follows the concept of 35/1.2 most closely (from the existing lineup) so it's probably quite dreamy wide open.
Looks pretty short based on the video, without hood the lens is about as long as 23/1.2 with its tiny hood.
Thanks for posting the video. It's interesting they mentioned that the optical design it's closer to the 35/1.2 X-mount, which has a double gauss design, when in fact the new 50/1.2's design is reminiscent of the CV 75/1.9 lens.
The depth of field and focal length equivalence to full frame will also be similar to what you get with the 75/1.9 Ultron lens, so the new 50/1.2 X-mount is designed as a short tele lens.

This 50mm/1.2 surprise definitely has me re-evaluating things over the last few days.
Although I had not really anticipated picking up the CV 35mm/1.2, I am thinking for now I will do that. Considering its only 196g and 40mm length vs the 35/0.9s 492g and 65mm length it would definitely be a more travel friendly option for now.
I can see a nice international travel kit comprised of my 23/1.2 + 35/1.2 and 50/1.2...very compact, lite and formidable. These 3 alone at 705g being lighter than just my XF 23/1.4 + 33/1.4 at 735g and not to mention the overall size of the lenses.
I can take my time with the 35/0.9 and pick one up by the end of the year. So this has definitely given me something to think about

My preference for 35mm lens full-frame over standard 50mm full-frame lens.
Probably any Cosina Voigtlander Fuji X lens worth considering if you like manual focus. However Fuji XF 23mm f2 one of their best primes. Alternatively compact CV 23mm f1,2 X lens made in Japan costing 25% more.
My CV 35mm f2 E lens much longer and heavier lens for my SONY A7R3 compared to CV 23mm f2 equivalent X lens. Proving Sony E lenses cost more because of their E lens mount size.

That is a lens I hoping Cosina will design next!
The upcoming 50/1.2 is pretty compact and light at 290g, especially compared to the big and heavy CV 35/0.9 Nokton.

Well now that the 50mm/1.2 has dropped...I can see an Ultron 18mm/2 pancake happening Actually I like the CV 27mm/2 so much that I would get on board with an 18mm version.
I typically never really gravitated toward anything wider than 31mm in FF terms but an 18mm gets me to 27mm(FF) which is not that much wider so I would be willing to experiment. I could make a nice 4 lens travel kit with 18/27/35/50...such a compact versatile kit and even throwing in the 23mm would barely make a dent as far as weight and size are concerned!

I keep telling them that a 18/2 Ultron with similar signature rendering to their 27/2 would be a winner. Fingers crossed!🤞

I plan to trade in my CV 28/2 VM II to offset the costs of this new 50/1.2 since I recently got the new CV 28/2.8 VM which I like better than the 28/2 (both adapted on my Sony A7C). I will take it to Map Camera for trade-in this weekend and make a reservation for 50/1.2 at the same time. It's easier to buy from the physical store (rather than their online store) when making trade-ins.
I'd also love a new CV 18/2 pancake for Fuji X and I think they may make one since CV 27/2 for Fuji X has been really popular in Japan too, and Cosina seems to be releasing a lot of new lenses for Fuji X now.

Glad to hear that. While I love my CV lenses for my A7C, I think they make a better match for the Fujifilm X cameras – operationally & ergonomically, emotionally and in two different ways, aesthetically.

I like my native CV lenses on my A7C just as well as my 2 native Fuji X lenses on my X-S10. I think one advantage for Fuji X lenses is the smaller sizes of the lenses due to APS-C vs. FF but FF has some other advantages. I traded in some of the larger CV E-mount lenses (110/2.5 and 65/2) since I just didn't use them enough due to size & weight and some of the remaining ones are also borderline too big and heavy (e.g. 21/1.4).
So far the native CV Fuji X options are distinctly different from the E-mount options so it's nice to have a good mix of both
For adaptation of compact rangefinder lenses I prefer to use FF cameras to keep the original field of view etc.
