Great photos - only in the 1st photo the stuff on the left hand side mars the composition. Wasn't it possible to stand a bit more to the right or something like that?

Thanks mate. Unfortunately not; the spot have gotten very overgrown I would need to be in the water to not have them in the frame.

Very nice. How did you put together the images where you had a landscape + the milky way? Assuming the sky wasn't a single exposure. (or if it was -- I want the setup you're using!)

Nice work. The last is my favorite. I take it you combined two exposures - one long for the tree, and a shorter for the sky. Exposure on both is spot on to my eye - too bad the longer exposure blurs the star reflections so much.

It was in fact three exposures; I tracked the sky and then the water in reverse with a portable star tracker. Unfortunately tracking reflection was not going to be perfect but still much better than a huge star trail in the water if it was just a single long exposure while exposing the foreground tree.

As you can imagine blending the images together took some time haha.

Thanks mate! I was very lucky that day for one I've never gotten the chance to go down Gibson Steps up until then; the few occasions I visited the 12 Apostles (I live in a different state in Australia) due to weather/tide the steps were always closed and also on that day the sky was completely overcast and even spitting rain up until like 20 minutes before sunset. The sky literally opened up for just about 15 minutes before it turned rubbish again.

the water in reverse with a portable star tracker.

I'd not thought about that aspect before, that's tricky. Great work

Lovely set, especially drawn to the nightscapes and DSO stuff. The Rho Ophiuchi with the Blue Horsehead is an especially nice framing - either region of the sky can stand alone but together make for quite the mesmerizing composition. The Eagle Nebula looks even maybe a little too bright in the core but great to see all that interesting faint nebulosity that surrounds the Pillars area. The nightscapes are both very nice, and I have not seen the reverse tracking for the star reflections before, that is a cool extra technique and it seems to have worked well in that shot, although as mentioned above I can imagine combining all that together into a single image was non-trivial. Thanks for sharing these, very well done.

Hey mate I have the camera mounted on a star tracker; basically a budget/entry level equatorial mount which will track the stars to allow for long exposure without trailing. Multiple (hours worth) of exposure were taken and integrated to maximise signal (and reduce noise) before editing (stretching) to bring out the details.

Nice shots. Your blending of foreground with tracked skies is very good; that's always a challenge, what's your technique?

Thanks mate; luminosity mask to quickly get a chunk of the blending done followed by a dose of OCD and a lot of patience around the tree itself haha.

You must be high on the OCD scale :-) I've given up on blending with trees!
