p.1 #1 · I Went To Nikon This Morning Am Getting A New Camera
I went to Nikon this morning I showed the camera to this guy he takes the camera and is gone a good half hour. He finally com s back and says to me I got bad news for you the sensor is scratched there is a fingerprint on the sensor and it is going to cost you $1800.00 dollars to replace it I checked with the guy’s in the back and there is no way the camera left here like that when he said that to me a raging feeling came over me I wanted to put my foot somewhere. I demanded to speak with a manager. The manager was very nice and he said the same thing that the guy’s said there is no way the camera left here like that I insisted that is the way I got the camera back so the manager said we will repair the camera and I said there were hardly any exposures on the camera and it was brand new when I brought it in I want a new camera no matter what he said I said I want a new camera. Well the bottom line I am getting a new camera. At first I thought I was taking them to court. I was raised when you are in the right no matter what Stick up for your rights someone was watching over me and of course who ever worked on the camera is going to lie to save his job and on top of it they made me wait 8 days to get my camera back. They did not have a camera availability and I was asked how long are you willing to wait I said as long as it takes. I said I do not want a refurbished camera it was new when I brought it in.

well congrats for that. my only question is that since you picked up the camera because you live so close why did you not open an inspect right there before left Nikon? that at least for me is SOP and saves a lot of possible issues and surprises after the fact.

Don't get me wrong. I don't question you may well have gotten a "freak" of an incident camera back destroyed for some unreal reason. If that is indeed the case you are sure entitled to a brand new camera to replace it no questions asked. But that said, I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that NOBODY else will have the experience you've just had. We'll watch this and see, but I'll maintain your situation was a "freak" situation and won't be repeated. My own personal experience with Nikon service (not NY but LA) was superb. Fast and concise service done and returned like brand new. Let's see how the other reports of people getting their Z8's back from service shakes out.

Let's eat children...let's eat, children. Punctuation indeed makes a difference.

I am an NPS member and about 2 years ago I sent in a D850 for cleaning.
I received the camera about 8 or so days later. First thing I did was test everything. Well
for some reason when you looked through the viewfinder everything looked out of focus and
the diopter adjustment was not working. Long story short when I called they denied it being like that
when it shipped. After much going back and forth with a manager I was told to send it in for repair.
From that time on I have lost faith in Nikon's service.
I know that anything can happen, but at least own up to the fact that the camera was working perfectly
when I shipped it for a cleaning..

It happens. I bought a brand new Sony A7Rlll through Greentoe and the one I received was all scratched up , the lens mount was well worn and it had over 64,000 clicks on the shutter. It's posted here at FM. How did that get out the door

I am willing to bet that is why it took eight days to get my camera back. This guy brought his camera in while I was waiting and was told two days.

Repairs are a major profit center for Nikon. Their history of this kind of shenanigans has been well documented on this board.
No it doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens often enough to question their integrity!

When that guy came in and said to me I got bad news for the in the back said they would never send a camera out like that and it is going to cost you $1800.00 to replace the sensor a funny feeling surged through me and it a good thing he got out of there. He said I’m not getting involved. Boy I bit my tounge. But the manager was a decent person. Thank God someone was watching over me.

Now I am going to write NPS. The camera was like new when I brought it in it had only a handful of exposures on it I really never got a chance to use it.

I think your first mistake is sending it in for repair. Never send in for repair if you can return it to the retailer within the return period. Always return and rebuy. Don't even bother with an exchange with the retailer. Yes, the manufacturers will say "send it in to repair, we will take care of it, it's small issue and no problem". Once you send it in, you are hooked and will be at their mercy.

I must admit that my initial reaction when you posted this was that the damage occurred during the "tricking out" process you reported earlier. Or perhaps the "tricking out reversal" process prior to sending it in. But I am happy to be wrong and glad it all worked out for you!🙂

Whoever worked on the camera had to take some of the decal off when he put it back on I it was like a kid in kindergarten had put it on. He put it on any ol way that I took it all off. The way he worked on the camera is the same way he put the decal back.

Glad to hear finally Nikon owes up to it. No idea how it happened.
Over here, when I pick up my camera, first thing they always do is to
have me turn on the camera and check that everything looks ok before I leave
the service center.
