In my opinion, the M10-R stands out as one of Leica's finest and most reliable releases. While the M10-P comes in as a close second for me, the M10-R truly excels in terms of image quality, rivaling even the M11.
I much prefer the color output from the M10-R and in terms of dynamic range, I saw no difference between M10-R and M11.
While I wonder what Leica might introduce with a future M12, I struggle to envision any substantial enhancements beyond the current iteration, especially if they choose not to incorporate IBIS -- which, to be honest, I don't even desire unless it comes with zero penalty in terms of more weight or size.
Regarding the rangefinder experience, I'm unsure about what other enhancements Leica could possibly introduce. Consequently, it appears that the majority of improvements and new features will likely be concentrated on LiveView/EVF functionality....Show more →
Hi Fred,
I agree with almost everything you have said, except I think we will see sensor improvements in the M camera in due time as well. Stacked sensors have fewer and fewer penalties these days and in a few years I expect them to have fewer penalties yet and allow almost all camera to go without a shutter without really any IQ penalties. I think an M camera without a shutter would both lighten the M a little and allow great performance and higher shutter speeds which would allow people to shoot fast lenses wide open on sunny days. Going shutterless would also allow the camera to be silent which could come in handy in some situations. My best guess is the M12 or M13 (if they call it that) will have a stacked sensor and no shutter.
