Hi, can you explain what is meant by “not locking completely”. Can the lens be released without pressing the release button? Does it slip?
All my lenses lock with a click sound but 400/4.5 doesn’t produce the click sound but it does lock.
(Assuming, locking means you have to press the lock button to release it.)

I have 7 lenses and every one of them lock just fine and you need the button to release any lens. I'm not sending it in unless I start having trouble. If it's not broke....

Worse yet you think it’s locked on and when not looking the lens detaches down into the ocean.

I have no problem with mine unless I have a problem with mine.
I like the tight tolerances. If there was any looseness at all in the FTZII and 500PF coupling I would be complaining.
I estimate the play in my FTZII with the Z8 body is ZERO (no play whatsoever). I estimate that my 500PF has less than 1mm movement after it locks to the FTII. Perfect!
I noticed this problem since day one that I picked up mine on launch date.
Sometimes when I mount a lens, I noticed it did not feel quite the same as my other Z bodies and may be 2-3 times, I did not get the click when I mounted the lens felt like it did not latch on to the mount properly. I was told to wait for Nikon to come up with a repair solution. The problem had something to do with the new vender they used to manufacture the mount for them.
At least locally I can make an appointment to drop off my camera at Nikon and should be able to pick it up the next day. However, I am waiting to get my Z9 back first before sending my Z8 in. My serial number is on the list.

Had the same issue with UPS...I just selected Z7...hopefully this will not cause me headaches...there was no Z9 selections

The cost of lost opportunity makes known defects by far unacceptable.
I would hope that Nikon is actively removing the defective products from the market so that I don't have to wait too long for the defects to be sorted out. For the summer I suppose it will be suffering with S*ny.

You do not actually believe that Nikon is going to leave all those serial numbers on the shelves. Of course not.
I agree that they need to get the word out.
The next thing is that everyone will be complaining that they cannot get one. That is not good.
As for mine, it is great.
Now you have me thinking. Maybe I should send it in.

I received my Z8 6 days after the orig batch. My serial number is 30064xx and it is included in the recall. I only have three Z lenses and they are all functioning correctly.
If you have a serial number larger than mine, please post it up and let us know if it is included. Just curious how many Z8's are in the wild.

Shipped mine today. Although I don’t anticipate selling this camera anytime soon it’s that good, I would like to know it’s been fixed and not a problem waiting to happen when I am shooting somewhere, and if I sell I can say it’s been repaired.
My camera is impacted so I'm going to send it in. Interestingly, in the instructions, nikon said to select 'z6' from the ups drop down menu. I had no option to choose z8 or z9 so I did what I was told. When someone opens the box, it will pretty clearly be a z8 in for repair, not sure why they want you to select anything. They all go to the same place. A bit of a bummer, but hopefully they turn this quickly.
