p.2 #1 · New Mac and PC Lightroom Benchmarking

Nvidia list the base clock speed of the 4070 at 1.92GHz vs boost at 2.48GHz. I'd hazard a guess that the 20 secs in the table for the 4070 was for the base Nvidia clock speed, so the lower time is for bigger boost difference, whether 2.48, 2.55 or 2.58GHz.

Either way I wish I had that card instead of my 3060 at a lowly (long) 38 secs ...

It's 100% his overclocking. He's getting roughly 20% faster results and lo and behold when he shares his overclocking, he's overclocking about 20%. FWIW, that will shorten the life of the card and can cause stability issues (crashes, etc), but its something gamers in particular like to do, and if you don't care about a shorter card life or stability then have at it. But it's not *standard* results and he full well knows it, he just wants to argue.

Maybe. I've never OC'd a GPU because I never wanted to but I've run OC'd CPUs for multiple years (the last one from 2012-2021) and never encountered any of the gremlins you fear.

Thanks for your concern and permission to proceed.

I dialed core Mhz way down in MSI AfterBurner to lock @ OEM non OC settings - no material effect actually, ACR still pumps 4 linear enhanced NR DNG files a minute ( 15 sec for A7R4 raw file )

I have as well, and have. Your anecdotal experience is just that. Manufacturers design things with specific parameters in mind.

The post was about comparing manufacturer spec cards and their performance, period.

I seem to have touched a nerve with the Nvidia crowd who have mocked Apple's claims on GPU performance as overstated. However, for many tasks like these it turns out that they can perform head to head with the best Nvidia offers. So we see people trying to claim my numbers are bad by sharing their overclocked data, etc.

Look, for 3D rendering and gaming, it's no question Apple's GPU's can't compete. I have the Nvidia GPUs I have because I need them for these tasks. But it's also no question that for other tasks, such as what LR uses, the Apple GPUs are extremely competitive. That's it. No need to get you feathers ruffled. If you have nothing useful to contribute to the thread beyond snark, then just move on. If you want to share your own data with your own GPU then please do, it will be good to add to the mix.

Your entire comment history on this thread belies this claim. Feel free to share some of your own results if you would like to make a useful contribution. I’d be happy to have additional data points and I’m sure others who come to this thread to learn would them useful as well.

It's 100% his overclocking.

it is NOT, I moved clocks way down and ACR still works as w/ OC ... it is not a game or OpenGL test where FPS more noticeably affected - Adobe's NR performance does not change in any material way... as I noted - take a look @ how you test, not try to find errors elsewhere just because somebody else gets different result ( w/ any A7R4 files, with one or with dozens, with ACR on screen estimate, stopwatch or OS recorded time batch processing dozens of raw files )...

You might have noticed that I deleted that post before you responded to it. Maybe you decided to quote it anyway to stir the pot... I don't know (or care). If you think me disingenuous when I say it doesn't matter to me who wears the GPU crown, there's nothing I can do about it.
