I think Nikon is maybe getting ready for a mirrorless D500 (Z900?) + 200-600 (180-600?) in July as a tandem release. Regardless, nice to see them giving the DX folks some 'native' lenses.

This only tempts me because it's compact but the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 is better in almost every other way and will remain on my Z fc.
I was just wondering what your take will be when I saw your nick in the thread considering how much you love the Viltrox. It really does have nice output and I have considered it many times. This is more compact and more Nikkor. Looks like I'm going to like the price too. Funny hood but better than not provided at all.
I've been wanting a DX 35ish for a while and this is just right with the f/1.7. The f/2.8s take me a bit too far up the ISO when I use them. This will get me in the 3200s or so. Would have loved the Sigma 23 but with Nikon releasing this, it now makes sense why Sigma did not and might never. I'm going to have this.
Haters are going to comment on the plastic mount but I’ve yet to have problems with it, and it keeps cost down these days. The same people complaining about plastic mount would complain it needs to be cheaper if it had a metal mount and was $350 anyway….
Keeps costs down and the lenses even more lightweight. What's not to like? All my Z lenses are plastic mounted(I'm cheap like that) but having said that I received the 26mm pancake just this morning and man does it feel good in the hand.
Interesting. I was convinced that I would only spend on FX in the Z line from now on. Then this little guy comes along as a potential perfect light travel companion to my Z50.

For the price no, with IBIS and at ~35mm FX it should be fine.
Except that neither the Z50 nor my Zfc have IBIS . . .
I'm not being negative as I use the 28, 14-30, 50 etc on my Zfc without issue - just have to push up the SS a bit so I don't see this as particularly an issue for the wide's.
But I can tell the difference when I'm using the 16-50 . . .

I really wanted to like the 26mm pancake, but having looked at a lot of sample images, it just seems unremarkable for the price. Nikon's 28mm was pretty decent in my experience, but I always wanted faster than f/2.8, especially on Z50.
I have also shot the Viltrox 23mm 1.4. It produced really nice image quality, however I didn't like the size/weight for the way I use the Z50.
This 24mm, however, seems to really tick a lot of boxes. Inexpensive, compact, f/1.7, and the few sample images from Nikon indicates a lot of potential.
Along with a 35mm version, I'd love to see a 17/18mm option as well!
Man, Nikon sure has a lot of compact lenses in that 24-28mm range. Is this a case of several different departments not coordinating with each other, or is there some master plan (ie a new camera) that will become apparent and this will all make sense?
