we were blessed with the clouds breaking and getting 10 minutes of good lighting before the sunt set. These are all taken from various points on Steptoe butte on the Palouse. Enjoy!

The middle photo is particularly striking, wonderful series!
Thanks, yes I was watching this small grove of trees and had been waiting for the right lighting to get this shot.

Beautiful images of one of my favorite locations.
I live here and it's still one of my favorite spots to visit in the spring and fall.

Lovely. There is an elegance to these photos that I can't quite put my finger on to define it better. Magic in the light and processing.
Thanks! Every time I visit Steptoe, the magical 10 minutes just before sunset when the dipping sun creates that soft lighting, as well as providing the contrasting shadows off the rolling hills... it can almost look like an oil painting for that short amount of time.
I love the views from Steptoe, a special photographic location for sure. The geology of how this area came to be is also a very interesting read. I am glad to see you got some light on your trip.

Nicely done set, thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comment and agreed on special-ness of the area. Steptoe is 40 minutes from my house, so it's not that far of a trip for me .

Nice work. Were these taken recently? I've been thinking of heading over from Everett, but need a cool period.
This was taken this past Saturday. You should have vivid greens until mid-June, after that you will start seeing the golden colors start showing in the fields. Canola should start popping out soon as well.
You are always welcome to message me before heading over, I can look out the window and give you a report on the conditions

First and third are beautiful with the light, nice work.
Thanks for the comment, yes the lighting was moving fast on these and there was very little time to capture shots with this lighting.

The third one is so vibrant and if it were my shot I might try a tighter crop.
I love telephoto landscapes as it is so much fun to find detail to isolate for the eye.

The third one I have shot many times and usually go for a tighter crop to put emphasis on the lonely tree. I had decided on a different crop to bring out the rolling hills lower in the frame.
Agreed on the telephoto lens, especially on the Palouse... it sure opens up creative ways to shoot.

Love this spot with the right light. #2 is my favorite.
I wish the lighting was a little better for this one and I will attempt it again later, if I make it out there again in the near future.

Man you have me ready to pack my bag and head over! Lovely photos! Looks like I'm only 6 hours away, that's doable!
Come on over! Better get out here before the smoke from Canadian wildfires blankets us again... we've had some clean air recently.

Wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
I am planning to visit in July.
The green wheat will be turning gold and not have this same look in July. I like it, but also try to capture the various times of season living here.
Canola is just starting to pop, I was noticing a considerable change in just the past 2 days, yellow is starting to pop everywhere in the fields.

These are very beautiful shots. I should hit that place one day
Come on over, I just recently met with a photographer from Hawaii and took her to a few spots around the area searching for barn photos
