Beautiful shot and love the colors.
You'd never know there was a house behind that church.
Love the tombstones as well.
2nd shot is impressive and really show's you the surroundings.

Bill,
Thank you.
You would also not know that to the right of the frame in the second image, there is another house (red roof, again) which now serves as a lovely little inn. Scroll down here and see their footer image for an even wider view -

Rajan,
An area I have yet to see.
Thanks for sharing.
How did you get these POV's? Helicopter?
Scott
Thank you, Scott.
The above two were taken with a drone during the summer of 2020 when we had Iceland to ourselves (it was the pandemic year). Last summer I went there with the 🚁 and we landed it right on the lawn outside the Inn, a stone's throw from the church. See attached snap.

Hi Rajan
Does the entire island sit on old lava flows? And isn't that mountain behind the parsonage and helicopter an old volcano?
I looked at your blog and "About". Congrats on the work you put into your Phd and your work on the island.
Iceland is so fascinating.

Robert,
Thank you very much for your comments.
The signs of volcanism are present throughout the island. There are older areas such as the Westfjords that are currently dormant but the rest is active. When you land in Iceland at Keflavík International Airport, the first thing you will notice as you get out and drive towards Reykjavík is the presence of lava all around (the recent 2 eruptions were within a stone's throw of the airport). The road cleaves through the lava field and it is lava all the way almost until you get to Reykjavík. Lava is ever present in Iceland. Hope you can cut a trip here some time.
