p.1 #1 · Travelling to US - TSA camera screening requirements at airport
I'm travelling to the US fairly soon, and I'm wondering if the TSA still requires cameras and lenses to be removed from the camera bag and placed in a bin for separate screening while going through airport security?
I remember that the TSA enacted this policy back in 2017, but I've not heard if it's still enforce.

I've not noticed it recently, but they never cared about my lenses except in other countries. I keep the bodies in plastic bags just in case. Worst case is they will run you through again.

Thanks for your reply.
Plastic bags are a good idea; I might use some large zip-locks.
I just hate the idea of taking my gear out in placing it in those trays/bins; stuff always rolls around, and security definitely aren't worried about items dropping or banging together.

Be advised that ALL TSA decisions are at the discretion of the agent at the gate. I can say that in a recent trip from KPHL to KRDU I took my OM-1and a couple of lenses and not an issue. Before the Covid hysteria, about 4 years ago, I flew into Canada at Pearson Intl with whatever gear I had at the time, and neither into or out of there was any issue raised by Canada border agents or USA TSA. But, who knows. COVID will last as an excuse for all manner and sundry of issues into at least the next century, so, if I were you, I would make contact with the respective border control authorities and ask. But as I noted, at least in the US, any agent can flag anything at anytime for any reason other than that said agent can do it. HTH

I’ve gone through security many times in many countries and it’s really a crap shoot if they ask me to take my cameras / lenses out and put them into bins. Done it dozens of times with no harm to the gear. Really nothing to get worried about.
