I've been reading that there's supposed to be a link between the EVF brightness and the ERF brightness in the menu, but I haven't found that to be the case with my camera. Even when I set the EVF brightness to +5, it doesn't seem to affect the ERF when using the CV 23/1.2 or Fuji 35/2 lenses. Have you experienced the same issue? I've been trying to find a way to increase the brightness and contrast of the ERF, but haven't been successful yet.
Unrelated to this, I've been having trouble with the camera's menu system: when I leave the menu and come back later, it doesn't remember my previous location and takes me to a different option. This has been bothering me a lot, and even resetting the camera hasn't solved the problem. Any takers?

I always just used auto on EVF brightness but I think I remember people confirming that you can't adjust ERF patch brightness

My Fuji's remember my menu position unless you are in the "setup" section or turn it off. I never did anything to get this behavior.

Thanks for confirming this for me. I just figured out that if you're using adapted lenses, the frameline brightness can be manually. But if you're using a native lens, the camera's supposed to handle it automatically. That's probably why the OVF screen looks dimmer with a 'native' lens depending on lighting. But, with adapted lenses, you can crank up the frameline brightness up to +5 and that'll make the ERF brighter too!
That's the only way I've found so far to make the ERF brighter.
On menus, if My menus is setup the X-Pro3 defaults to that. If not, it goes to the first menu. This behavior is different than the X-T5 which does remember menu position.

Hmm, my OVF framelines and ERF patch are very bright with adapted glass, brighter than with native. But my EVF brightness is just set to auto, perhaps I forgot how I set it that way? I remember researching/reading about it but it was many years ago What setting did you change to amp up the OVF framelines?

Just noticed the XT5 remembers menu position between power cycles. Hadn't really noticed before it must be a feature on the newer bodies.

Yes, that's what I meant. When using adapted lenses without electronics, the framelines, including the ERF, are typically brighter (somehow they are linked).
On the other hand, when using native lenses, the brightness of the framelines is adjusted automatically, so there is no way I can see to tweak it. If the lighting conditions require a brighter ERF for easier focusing, the tip is to rotate the lens ever so slightly out of the mount to disengage the electronics, resulting in a brighter frameline.
