Rendering/schmedering. What exactly is "point and shoot type rendering?" I have the 24 and the 40mm. They're great. But of course if you want to pay more for bigger, faster lenses, then I'm sure you will go ahead. Some of this thread is reading a bit like a conversation between people who want to buy expensive lenses and need someone to affirm their choice or help convince them to do so.

I find that as soon as there's a lens the size of the new 24-50 on the camera the shooting experience is completely different. I have the 24gm which is similar in size and it's just too large for every day shooting, the 24g feels way better.

I think any lens larger than the 28/2 really starts to change the experience of the small body, not that larger lenses can't work well but it's just not what I want to carry generally unless I'm out hiking or traveling specially for photos.

Some f2 pancake lens in the 28-40 range would

indeed, I see it as the same way, 24GM/ 24-50, 20-70, are just way too big to be compared. The 16-35, 20-40, I occasionally entertain...... the sony 24-50mm @ 24 is suddenly the largest 24mm f2.8 configuration ever existing

sony has made me addicted to the smaller lenses, in terms of this thread, the 24/50 compact G's are nice lenses, I'm happy with the end results every time, but there are some things that annoy me........ first, the range, we need more options or maybe one ultrawide......... that's where sigma has filled the void...... sigma 17 + 45 is also another great combo, I know the range is wildly off, but I do enjoy it very much, and I like the idea that I can add the sigma 24 f3.5 to the mix, all have nice MFD, all have 55mm filters, etc. Sony doesnt have quite the range that sigma does..... the sigma 90 is bigger than all these, but still relatively small and filter game checks out......

The only rendering I know about is clear, or fuzzy.

A modern up-to-date 28mm f/2 would be great. I bought the older 28/2 used but really have not used it much since I tend to carry the 24/2.8 + 40/2.5 G. The ergos of the older lense just are inferior to the newer small G primes that have an aperture ring and other controls.

I do also own a few of the Sigma I-Series f/2 lenses and trying to decide which to keep. At f/2 they have 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 65mm. They are built really well in my opinion. Too bad Sony didn’t try to compete with these.

I don’t see any pancake lenses for Sony full frame that I am aware of. If you know of any pass on that info. Take care.

I'm using Samyang 35/1.8, 45/1.8, and 75/1.8 with A7C II. The build quality is nothing to write home about. But more importantly to me, they are f1.8, feather weight, and have excellent optical quality.
