I have to laugh at him talking about how most of his work is people screwing up their own gear because, sure enough, the only time I've sent a lens to him was when I'd converted it to Leitax and when I went to convert it back I realized I'd lost some of the cams and shims and/or didn't know which ones went where.

Sure enough there are some of make mistakes and break the camera. But likely most repair requests come from users who purchased a used film camera and want it CLAed or fixed, maybe parts replaced. Same for lenses - modifications included. With increased interest in film gear, also film gear repair requests will increase since cameras will change hands more often.
p.3 #3 · Interview with Don Goldberg (DAG): A Leica Repair Master
There is a new video documentary on Don. It's only like 15 minutes, but was interesting to watch and to see him train his son. I think it will be on Youtube soon. But basically he said he's done and is only doing this for another 4-5 years until he pays off his house, then his younger son will take over.
I talked to him on the phone yesterday about other stuff and this documentary came up and he said it was fine. But then he mentioned this Nice Film Club phone interview and said NFC never told him it would be published. He found out about it because his daughter called him to tell him about an interview she saw that made him look bad and he thought that was pretty crappy of them.
By the way, while on the phone with him (maybe 10 minutes), his other phone rang probably 20 times. He said he gets 200-300 emails a day and doesn't have time to reply to pretty much all of them.

I haven't used his services so far. I had all work done by YYeCamera who is also very responsive and fast both for general inquries and service updates.
Youxin CLA'd my IIIf very nicely and quickly.
On the point about there being enough people who do expert repairs, I believe Youxin is an accountant by day.
