I did a side by side with my RF 600F4 and the 100-300 with 2x TC, and was also completely shocked how close they are in sharpness. The 600 is better, but its not "WOW" that's a big difference better! Its slight.
With a 1.4 I cannot find any difference in IQ from the bare lens. its really an amazing piece
There’s no maybe about the 100-300 being a great lens - it just depends on what someone wants or needs. For me I wanted a fast zoom (using TCs when needed) to travel Southern Africa with vs bringing a larger prime like a 400mm 2.8 or 600mm 4.0

Definitely. Replaced my 400 f/2.8 on safaris. And added greater flexibility.
