E-Infinity (Hong Kong based grey exporter) has it for pre-order for EUR 1179. By comparison they list the Tamron at EUR 1575. So the Samyang is almost 25% cheaper.

If it's lighter than the Tamron I'm VERY interested. The Tammy was VERY useful for event work...a bit of a bummer as a walkaround lens due to its weight.

Apparently heavier than the Tamron. I guess price will be the only reason for anyone to buy it.
Seems like Samyang might be better off sticking to primes.

Tom Calton seems to be happier with the SamSam than the TamTam:

Currently it is a 400 euro difference in Amazon DE in favour of the Samyang.

The Tamron does look and feels a bit more refined to me; I guess that's what you pay for. The Samyang just doesn't seem to be as polished. That would make me pick the Tamron personally if I were interested.
Sharpness from the Samyang does feel slightly better; although the comparisons Tom makes seems slightly suspicious.

For what I would use, mostly landscape, the far away test was brutal against the Tamron. I am not sure if it is related to field curvature but looks like a wide open shot of a M lens on a Sony…

With Samyang, copy variation tends to be huge. So we have to wait for the real (not hand picked for reviewers...) copies to come out...

I think it's a little bit strange. The lenses have very similar builds and optical formulas. The idea that the Samyang would blow the Tamron out of the water is just a little unbelievable
I'll start believing it if more reputable reviewers that are objective reach the same conclusions. Until then I'll take Tom's review with a grain of "go out and buy the latest lens because of my skewed results".

I have just looked at images from my Tamron at 150mm/f2.8 at middle to long distance and am not seeing anything like the same corner softness as Tom Calton so I wonder about his copy of the Tamron. it does seem like Samyang are onto a winner though I have no regrets about buying the Tamron as it really is the ultimate Event lens

They seem so close that I think nobody will be willing to pay 500$ more for the Tamron...
I wonder how AF stacks up, in my experience even the new motors from Samyang don't feel as smooth as Tamron's.

I'm very impressed with the way Samyang has been continuously expanding/improving their range and quality.

Here's the Samyang page for the lens - https://www.samyanglens.com/en/product/product-view.php?seq=621

Weight:
Tamron- 1165 or 41.1 oz
Samyang - 1224 or 43.2 oz

Wonder if Samyang's QC is any better with this lens?

Anyone have info on where the wide open aperture changes across the zoom range compared to the Tamron?

Looks like it's the same as the Tamron: 40/60/80 mm.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see more reviews. There's an around 550USD diff between this and the Tamron where I am. Of course I've heard zilch on Samyang's warranty handling and the term is 1yr I think whereas Tamron provides a 5yr warranty / service agreement (tied to the first buyer) (and my only contact with them so far wasn't negative on the whole). Is that worth 500USD+? I don't know

The difference is even bigger than that. On the Samyang website, it's $1259 for the new 35-150mm, no tax. (there's a 10% coupon, as usual).

And if you consider how quickly Samyang prices tank, this lens will be under a thousand dollars by the end of this year. They were selling 135mm f/1.8 for $616 (no tax + free shipping) this last holiday season. This lens will kill Tamron just on the price.

It is also a big minus. No matter what lens you buy, you will always be looking at something newer and shinier down the line. The Sony system is not good for people like me with GAS issues.
