p.1 #1 · Four of Risin og Kellingin, on the Faroe Islands
When I go around photographing, I always love to learn about the myths and legends attached to the places I shoot. I find them to be very inspiring, and when I can't find any, I always make up stories of my own instead.
Risin og Kellingin, or The Giant and The Witch, are two sea stacks off the coasts of Eysturoy, on the Faroe Islands. Legends tell that the two of them went from Iceland to Faroe to reclaim the islands, and bring them back. However, their nighttime attempts to pull the Faroes back to Iceland failed, and as morning's first light shone on them, it turned them into stone, and there they stood since.
Here's four different images of Risin og Kellingin, taken on four different days from three different viewpoints:
Phase One IQ4, XT - Rodenstock 90mm, 2 minutes Frame Averaging at f/11
Phase One IQ4, XT - Rodenstock 23mm, 4 minutes Frame Averaging at f/13
Phase One IQ4, Hasselblad 180mm V, 1/20 seconds exposure at f/11
Phase One IQ4, Hasselblad 180mm V, 1/30 seconds exposure at f/11

Vieri, I as a viewer always love reading the backstory when images are presented. These are beautiful images and the BW images are stunning. Thanks for sharing images from seldom seen location. 👍🏻

Fantastic and dreamy image set from Vieri as expected. World class photography.
Hue and composition are great and impressive B+W image pair.

About the spelling, "Risin og Kellingin" is actually correct; in Faroese - "og" means "and".

Nice images (as usual) Vieri. Covid cancelled my Faroes trip a couple of years back, but it remains on my "to-do" list. Nice to see that using the Cambo and IQ4150 will be fine in the Faroes!

Hey Ken, so sorry to hear that you had to pospone your Faroe trip due to Covid, and I hope you'll be able to get there soon! I loved using my XT first, and my Arca-Swiss Rm3di then, on my Faroe trips and I am looking forward to using my Arca-Swiss some more in March - no problems at all, you'll be fine with your Cambo!

Wonderful photos. Very pleasing to the eye.
How did you accomplish the "frame averaging?" I am assuming if the frame average was 2 minutes, you had four 30 second photos or eight 15 second photos, etc. and they combined in some way.
How did you accomplish the blend? Lightroom? Photoshop? Other software? Thank you in advance.

Frame Averaging is a feature built-in PhaseOne IQ4 digital backs: you establish your "base exposure", e.g. 1/50 second, and then you simply input in a menu your desired exposure length, say 10 minutes, and the camera takes as many shots at 1/50th of a second as it needs and combines them in a single file - magic!
