p.1 #1 · Burrowing Owls (Family of 6) : A Group Shot
I went to Florida in May 2022. My 1st priority was to go to Brian Piccolo Park to photograph burrowing owls. Instead of one day, I ended up going there for 3 days. I obsessed with their big innocent eyes.
It was a rainy day in late afternoon. I was in and out of a car due to pouring rain. Finally there were 6 of them coming out of a hole. They were inactive and I could tell it was their naptimes as they closed their eyes almost all the time. Although there was a marching band practice nearby which was very loud, they still barely open their eyes.
After waiting in a position for a long time and I started to get sleepy, luck was on my side. A big dog came to rescue! It walked to toward them and barked repetitively. Suddenly, miracle happened. They all opened their eyes. My patience paid off. I snapped shots repetitively. Within seconds, most of them were gone.
I am a nature & wildlife newbie. But I can tell this is the best shot of my life. This picture alone made my whole trip well worth it.
This is the 1st time I post these pictures anywhere else besides my photography website. My family were very proud of this picture

Nice pics. Its fun to watch these little guys. I got to photograph a large family of burrowing owls last year. Fun to watch and I actually put my camera on a tripod with for a few days. I prefocused on the burrow and set the timer to take a pic every 30 seconds. I got some good pics but wanted to get the adult owls feeding the babies but never saw that.

A great shot of cute little owls. I have never seen one yet. With wildlife luck can have a lot to do with a great shot. I have found patience and a lot of time watching seems to really improve your luck. Well done.

Excellent photos!!
I was at Piccolo Park in January 2020. I saw in 6 or 7 different nests about 10 owls. I could spend all day observing them. They are just so cool to look at! Sadly I just had a knee replacement and couldn't get on the ground for a proper shot. Heading back to that area next week. The in-laws have a time share on Hollywood Beach.
I also heard from a guy on one of the Sony Facebook pages that Vista View Park is even better for the owls. I'll be heading there as well.
On the list is also Chapel Trail Nature Preserve, but that may change if I hear it's not worth the time. But I am going to drive the Loop Road in the Everglades.

AZheaven, you might check out the Scottsdale Community College campus for burrowing owls. I found several active burrows around the perimeter and you have easy access. Can use your car as a blind. Would recommend going on a day when classes are not in session.

Nicely done! I appreciate your patience and the respect you offered the owls. Love the first image. Gotta admit the seeing large eyed sweet owls in daisy-like flowers makes me happy. Thanks!
