To each and every one of you who took the time to respond above - thank you very much.
Jung - Thank you. I didn't know about "Go Stop" and just Googled it.
David - It was pure luck - the 'right place at the right time' thing. The egret got away from the rest of the flock and the sun was positioned suitably from my vantage point.
Derrick - it was the sun. In the tropics, it rises very quickly and I had only a small window.
It’s not often that one sees an image which is notable equally as an outstanding landscape image and an outstanding wildlife image. This is one of those rare captivating images.
The composition is absolutely perfect. The geometry of the elements along the diagonal, with the sun and the bird balancing each other, is fantastic. The colors are rich and the brightness of the water and darkness of the mud are a wonderful contrast.
Fabulous image, Rajan, and thanks for sharing it. This is the type of nature photography I aspire to.

Thank you, Mitesh. It is not an image one can visualize in advance. But when luck smiles and tomatoes are dealt, chutney must be made.

Nice chutney. Did you get any shots without the hot spot?
Tony
You mean, without the sun? Not this time. The reflection of the gas ball is why I stopped here that morning. The general scene, barely processed, was like this attached photo. A few minutes later the reflection cleared the ridge (or I moved around - don't remember) and a lone bird sauntered in.
