p.1 #8 · p.1 #8 · R6 Mark II - have they fixed the freezing/lockups? | |
Just to clarify after more time with the camera - it doesn't lock up. I can still shoot with it and get usable images because AF functions normally, etc. I just can't see anything because the live feed is gone for 5-10 seconds before it comes back. So rather than lockup, I'll call it blackout.
I posted more about it in the R6II initial impressions thread. It happened to me when reviewing images, but also when shooting, or about to shoot while the camera has a live view feed, rather than playing back images. I'm less suspicious about the memory cards (tried a couple different brands/models with the same results) and think it might be the sensor that switches between the rear display and the EVF when you bring the camera up to your eye. I didn't think of this until the last two games of the tournament when I turned off that feature and had it set to only use the EVF. Didn't have any blackouts during those two games. Maybe too small a sample to know if it's actually the cause of the problem.
There was one "lockup" that was different from the blackouts, where the image in the EVF froze and nothing responded. An error warning appeared, but I was pressing buttons and caused that disappear before I could read what the error code was (I don't think the R6II plays back error codes like some Canon cameras do).

Four games into the hockey tournament and the camera has locked up 5 times. Screens go black, no response for about 5 seconds, then comes back. Wondering if it’s the cards. Kingston 32GB Canvas React Plus UHS-II… They’re brand new and I did full card write read tests in the computer last night… Shooting in full res JPEG higher compression. Seems to happen during brief idle moments, literally just seconds, between shots
