Some great images. Love the owl & the redtail.
Did some math.... I can technically afford it. For now I put myself on the preorder list (6th in the queue). Talk me out of it, please (if 800PF shows up 1st the choice will be easier). I will pick one of the two - not both.
As one who enjoyed your posts in the 400 f/4.5 thread, go for the 600 f/4 TC! I look forward to seeing all of those magical beauties.
There are barely any lenses out. The northern hemisphere is getting into winter. And yet the gorgeous 600 f/4 TC shots are starting to freely flow here and elsewhere. Wow! Can’t wait for the migratory season.

Hehe, thanks for talking me out. I'll see what shows up 1st and decide. I'll either be poorer or not, we shall see.

I received mine a little over a week ago and have had a couple of opportunities to shoot it with wildlife in action - the first was fine for me the 2nd was much more demanding !!
As my first "outing" I stalked 4 large Red Deer stags in my local Royal Park and were in Rutt.
Then last tuesday I booked a Bird of Prey shoot and decided to handhold the 600 on a Z9 while I tried to shoot a number of birds, including a Peregrine x Lanner Falcon Hybrid. To give me some chance I asked the birds handler to move a little away from where I was shooting -- but still a very fast relatively small bird.

Output from Handholding Z600mm f/4 TC VR on a Z9 and Hawks/Owls in flight.
Attached is a link to the output from my photoshoot at Willows Bird of Prey Centre using two Z9 and 4 lenses -- the album contains the 184 images I produced as output when using the Z 600mm f/4 TC. You should be able to see each pass in sequence -- with upstrokes and unpleasing images excluded.

How was shooting experience, IQ and AF when maxing out the focal length like that?
Autofocus remains very usable. In this case, I was again shooting without any supports (handheld), so it's a lot more prone to shake. IQ is still pretty good, but I get a pretty good number of frames that are a bit fuzzy. In this case, I was not getting the framing or compression I wanted at 1200mm, so I reluctantly put the 1.4x TC on as well.
