Congratulations to xterra07 for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 7 votes - View Previous Winners
Always a great potential at this spot, the combination of mountain snow, fall colors and clouds formation. Second visit here on this trip, a few more in the past.
Special light and cloud formations at special locations are never the same 2 days in a row, and time and timing become more important than gear. There is often a hope for using ultra wide lenses, but 24-70mm is hard to leave behind.
Single image, the clouds were changing by the minute, sometimes seconds, light quality was improving while shade area was increasing, and the horse was not on a payroll. Just a favorite image among the dozens with less desirable features.
Thank you!
It's a great location I enjoy photographing at.

Wonderful photo! The colorful trees and their reflctions in the water direct the eye towards the distant mountains with the horse as an added bonus.
Wow, you totally nailed this, composition is perfect and conditions at that moment were superb, congrats! I see a big print in your future I’m hitting the vote button now!
Thank you all! Colorado fall always has something to offer.

superb, what a lovely shot, Rob. voted.
3 weeks in the area, not all days were winners, this was 1 of 10 targets while being open to new ones, And you can only be in one place at a time. The "area" being 4,000 miles of driving within that time, not including getting into the area.
It is a step up from 6 years ago. Tighter framing above this year was critiqued recently, but compared to below, I prefer the above framing:

This year it was more snow on the peaks for example, more fall colors.

And, a cow last time around? Or a headless horse? First saw your two images on Reddit, nicely done.
