...but I'm not parting with my FLE. It delivers a completely different look, even though it has the same focal length and aperture.
Yes, a different look. In June of 2023, I took my Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/1.4 ZM to Houston Camera Exchange, which is a Leica dealer, to shoot comparison images with a pre-owned, quite clean mid-Sixties Summilux-M 35mm Version II, and their demonstrator 35mm FLE. For reference, I had previously shot with a friend’s Cosina Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.4 II MC. To make a long story short, I am keeping the Distagon forever, and would like to eventually acquire an FLE, someday, even though I ordered a Re-Edition Steel Rim, when Leica USA received a delivery, at the end of June 2023. One can never have too many fast 35mm lenses.
My wife paints, especially with watercolors, and she certainly uses a variety of brushes.

Did you use the normal Leica Jersey repair form or did you email someone? I just got the lens.
Also what’s everyone doing for lens cap if you use an UV filter. I don’t want to use any of the hoods just a Leica UVII. However the snap on cap is too loose for the filter.

Some very unique Bokeh is some of these. I guess that is the "character" people refer to that make this lens famous.
Nice sets. Thanks for posting.
Thanks. These backgrounds were incredibly busy under very harsh lighting. Few 35mm lenses would make them less distracting. I don't think the Leica 35/1.4 FLE would make it any smoother.

Joined the club. I didn't think I will like the rendering, but, boy, with portraits it give a such pleasant look. It's so smooth. I think for environmental portraits, it may be more pleasing than 35 FLE. Or they supplement each other. Since it only focuses to 1m, it also pairs well with my 50 Lux as a 2 lens kit.
Nothing special to show just my boy going to the movies with his buddy.

Is a lot of the way this lens renders coming down to catching a bit of flare?
When I first saw these shots I assumed they were a mix of apertures just because of the differences in the “look”, but all wide open throws me a bit.
I really like the look of many of the shots I’ve seen, but I guess I’m wondering how controllable it is.
So first off, I am pretty damn sure all were wide open- It’s Leica so I could have messed up and shot at a smaller aperture but I don’t think so
Light will 100% play a roll in how much glow you get in certain situations, I think the sidelight vs backlight played a big part in that. Also how much contrast in a scene also plays a big part in the glow effect of it as well. Fred is and others are way better in the technical aspects but thats how I see things
It’s a lens that I love the character of, and I enjoy knowing and in some cases not always knowing what to expect on a shot. Uncontrollable is a good trait of this lens IMO Example- Two shots taken on the same day with very different scenes-

I thought I was going to be really bothered by the busy bokeh with the SR, but the subject rendering is so dope it kind of put all your attention on the subject. This is shot at f1.4. Depend on the lighting, the glow can be subdued. I still can’t figure out how to “control” the glow.

I really like the glow in this image! I’ve noticed that it depends a lot on the contrast of the lighting. In the image you posted, the subject is lit with low contrast, which helps reduce the glow effect. However, in direct sunlight, especially around midday, the glow becomes much more prominent. Under high-contrast lighting, I usually stop the lens down to around f/1.7 or f/2 to control it.

What interesting images everyone, I really enjoyed this thread. And the 'glow' is super cool, so much more apparent as mentioned in high contrast situations. My (Xmas) lens will be delivered in a few hours.

I emailed Leica 5 days ago to the general service email asking for the new hood. They only needed serial #, and today the new hood arrived. I didn't even get an acknowledgement reply from them that they sent anything. That's pretty efficient.
