Just got the new hood replacement and this one looks shorter. I think it will work with filters now but I will test it when I get home.

Indeed. Looks about shorter by the length of a typical UV filter. I think this will work!

Sure! They got rid of the top section, which means that even if you use a thick filter, it shouldn't cause any additional vignetting.

I've included a side-by-side comparison of the new and old designs, and personally, I think the new design still looks fantastic. Leica really came through!

So Fred, maybe too obvious a question - it also works fine w/o the filter? And how would one know they had the new version hood? W/o having to put on a filter, take pics, check for vignetting etc.

Yes, with and without the filter.

The way to know if to hide the old one so you never find it again (

), or look at the hood itself. The new one is noticeably shorter.

Still shipping with old hood. Friend just purchased direct from Leica and shipped with old hood. New hood is only an email away. I honestly prefer this lens without a hood anyway, or just don't use a filter until new hood arrives.

I actually really like what Leica has done with this. Crazy mix up at first but they did come through and fix the problem with a very nice hood design.

Great job IMO

I was using the lens without a hood but really like the updated design. It's a small change but it's shorter and I don't have to worry about hard vignetting anymore!
