p.4 #4 · Will Leica bring the M6 film camera back to life?
I amI know my M6TTL 0.58 circuit board won't last forever (although I usually shoot it in M4 mode without batteries. Some offspring have taken a liking to that body so it would be cool if they wanted to save and buy a new (or used) M mount body once older.
The new MP's for $4150 at today's inflation rates are still killer. Wish I would have sold my M6TTL at peak price insanity to upgrade to a chrome 0.58 MP for minimal coin.

The best thing of all is that there is still enough demand for Leica to make even a small number of new M bodies ona yearly basis. M mount has a very good chance to be one of the long term bastions for film even as it lives as a niche medium.

Ah thanks for the note. That is a shame. I am hooked on 0.58 since I like 28 and 35 lenses.
I hear you. My MP is a .58 and it is the best vf for 28 and 35mm lenses. I also have .72 and .91 (M3), and the .72 while it does have 28 frame lines, it is really awkward to see them. The 35 frame lines are ok, but the .58 is still much better with that.
50 and above is where the .72 and .91 come in.
BUT! when I attach a screw in magnifier to the .58, it is good with longer lenses. So for me it is the most versatile finder.

I need to remember that screw in magnifier for my 0.58. I've always thought it'd be fun to have a 50 of some kind on a Leica. It's not in the finance cards anytime soon but maybe a few years down the line.

I have one but still havent used it on my .58. I’ve been able to focus with 50s just fine, even wide open.
So, this will be the 23rd limited edition M6 that Leica has released. Limited to 500? I guess that makes sense because why would Leica have that and the MP permanently in the line up? They will be the same camera.
I don’t understand how it can be cheaper. Unless they are not using brass top and bottom plates, removed the anti-flare baffle in the RF like the original M6 etc.
Hmm.

This buries the first rumor that Leica will release a new "cheaper" film camera. 500 pieces of the re-issued M6 only - focus group are again collectors. Hefty price tag IMO - a bit "lower" priced than the M-P but still high for a M6.
Glad I got my M6 a few years ago for $1100 in EX condition. This new released M6 has one good side for regular users - Leica now might have parts available to also replace older Leica M6 models with.

Ahhh..makes sense. Now we know why Camerworks and Kanto have such a long repaing job log. Leica has been senting them used M6s for the last 4 years to refurbish...2k for the body, 1k for the refurb, sell them for 4800.
