I am now interesting in Leica S2 (with the CCD sensor). What is its current price range in normal condition? I noticed that its trade up credits for Leica S3 is $2000 + trade in value. Any suggestion is appreciated.
I think S007 and later have c-mos sensor, only S2 and S006 are the last medium format have ccd sensor, Do you think $2000-$3000 for S2 is a reasonable range?
But you have to deal with sensor rot on the CCD sensor, and who is offering a replacement at this stage? Is that CCD rendering worth all the possible BS and $$$ cost you may have to deal with, sensor failure, in lens shutter failure. etc.
Personally I'd have to consider the S007 or an X1D.
I bought an S2 that was new in the box for about $2400 about 2 years ago from MPB. It came with the original receipt ~ $19k. I think there were less than 100 exposures. Anyway, I keep it clean and dry and the images are great. The lenses are spectacular and I also use Mamiya lenses on it. Highly recommended if you like CCD.
But the sensor problem is actually a small proportion which is the sensor cover glass (for filtering or protection) problem. The silicon ccd chip has no problem. I don't think that is a big deal to separate and replace the ccd cover glass. The overall quality of S2 is high in general I think.
