Lovely set Luke, you're blasting with 400f4.5...I don't have good images to post these days, but I've been playing with mine a lot, I'm loving it so far.
I just need Nikon to give us Z"d500", and I'll be set for a long time. This lens is like Nikon designed it to my drawings, perfect balance.
BTW, red-winged blackbirds are gone from here, I haven't see one in awhile, even no robins around, I like them to test my new lens, easy to get close.

Thanks! I had this lens for a while now and handling/balance is so much better than 500 PF. It also doesn't run VR non-stop like the F-mount lenses. On the Z9 I have DX crop configured to movie record button and I can switch to 20mpix crop very quickly. Overall - totally worth it and will pair really nicely with the 800 PF (whenever that arrives).
We get a lot of red-winged blackbirds here year round but no yellow headed ones (saw one two weeks ago - https://flic.kr/p/2nMXEGz - it's probably lost because it's not part of their range or migration route).
Luke: You are personally responsible for $3,246.95 of debt to my Visa card. . Seriously, I am overwhelmed by the performance of this optic. What a joy to shoot (with or without the Z TC14 attached with my Z9). Glad I lucked out and got a copy from my dealer in Dallas a few weeks ago. My 100-400 is now repurposed as a 100-300+ zoom. And … it goes without saying that your skills at showing off what this lens can do are top notch. Keep on shooting and posting. Thanks, Jim

I'm so sorry. Seriously - thank you for the kind words and looking forward to what you can do with it. I'm hoping to stop monopolizing this thread so much.
A small bump for the thread and to take some of the burden from Luke's shoulders! James, I hope you enjoy the lens as much as I do and I look forward to seeing your images here too!
Some very nice light and close subject studies at the colony past weekend (all uncropped and EXIF intact): _DSC8225-2.jpg by Alistair Owens, on Flickr

Some would argue how lens look isn't that important, so what would you do when wild life turns back on you on your hike.
I guess, you stop, then you take a portrait of your beautiful lens...
Cvrle59: But that hideous Nikon tripod foot mount detracts from its beauty. You must replace it with a sexy, useful Arca Swiss foot. Then it’s beauty will be undeniable.
Finally joining this thread, with some images taken this Sunday at Semiahmoo Spit, using the Z9, the 400mm f/4.5, and the 1.4x TC, shot wide open in crop sensor (DX) mode (and with various degrees of cropping...).
